Re-Ponaris nasal emollient

Post by sleepngo » Wed Dec 19, 2007 3:28 pm

Had a little trouble finding a pharmacy that carried ponaris, most local Pharmacies don't stock it, but was able to order it through Rite-aid Pharmacy. tried it out last night and it works great. I was having trouble with post nasal drip, caused by allergies...been doing sinus rinses on a daily basis...didn't help much with the nasal drip, did help clear out the nasal passages. My ENT recommended Ponaris and it seems to help out a lot. Now have added two more nasal compounds to fight nasal dryness, nasal restrictions and post nasal drip...Ponaris and Ayr-gel. Both products really help out a lot...use the Ayr-gel morning and evening , ponaris in the evening just before going to bed.

I bought a bottle yesterday at Walgreen's-anybody want it? Didn't work for me at all.
Made my nasal passages cooler and moisturized ,but it made me so sick at my stomach, I was wrenching and hurling all night. It drained down the back of my throat into my stomach.
Wow,,, can still taste that nasty oil...Did not open up my nose at all-was still stuffed up.
By the way--$15.99 plus tax was cost. Hope it was cheaper at the other pharmacy!

Joyce are you allergic to most cough suppressant that contain eucalyptus/menthol oils that are usually found in most cough suppressant? Some people do have trouble with these type of oils. For me the oil had a soothing effect on my sinuous and throat. The taste was similar to the Halls Plus cough suppressants that I take when I have a cold. My cost was $13.00 plus tax, a little cheaper here. Sorry you had a bad reaction to the oils.

Actually no, I have taken most all cough medicines, I have suffered with bronchitis most all my life. When I read the post on here last week I think, not sure, anyway, got me curious. Since I am trying to get away from nasal sprays, I thought that would be the trick! But it just didnt work for me. Was soothing, but that was about all. Sure glad you got a better price! I nearly flipped when she told me $16 plus!

Forgot to log in, Joyce I forgot to ask if you tried Ayr-gel that is a nasal gel that can be applied with a cotton swap inside the nostrils, to help keep them moisturized? It's cheaper and there is no problem with it going down your throat, no nasty taste.

I have been using homeopathic Zi-cam, it comes on swabs. I use it about
30 minutes before bed. I seems like it cuts way down on the nasal drip.

Joyce,

I wonder if you maybe allergic to cottonseed oil....my ENT said there was a possibility of that, and not to use it, if you have that known allergy.
(Although, I don't know how anyone would know, doesn't seem like something they would routinely test for allergies.) Sorry you had a bad experience.

Sleepngo,

I'm glad it is working well for you. I continue to use mine. The first time in 30 years I haven't been congested!! Only costs a little over $11. here and lasts for a couple of months, as I only use a couple drops in each side, more than that justs runs out and is wasted anyway.

One thing (out of hundreds) I've learned on this forum is what works for one, may not always work for all. But it sure is nice to hear of people sharing their experiences and helping others, that may have given up.

Happy Holidays to ALL!

NeedinZ, the best benefit that I have got from using Ponaris is that I no longer wake up with a stuffy nose caused by too much moisture, now I can run my H/H on bypass all the time without my nostrils drying out, no more sneezing and coughing from too much moisture in my lungs. It's a great feeling to wake up in the morning with a clear nose and lungs...one of the best nasal emollient I have found to use with Xpap therapy. I also use the Ayr-gel after breakfast to keep my nose moist during the day, both products, Ayr-gel and Ponaris, really work great with Xpap therapy, at least for me it does, I hope others will find it works just a well for them also.

The lady at the pharmacy counter suggested Zi-Cam, but the only one I found was spray and the ingredients sounded medicinal like decongestant spray. I wasnt sure what I was supposed to look for. I will ask about the swabs. Thanks! Have again learned something here.

ponaris

Post by patrice » Fri Feb 01, 2008 1:25 pm

Just by chance I came across Ponaris when I mentioned to the girl who gives me my allergy shots that my nose was so itchy i wanted to rip it off my face. She suggested claritin, allergra etc., which all work for about a week, i feel great and then slowly i develop a viral infection. could not figure it out till i started checking on the side effects from using Nasonex and one of them mentions viral infection. I've been plagued with ongoing coughing, sinus, pnd, sneezing for about 15 years and nothing has helped. When I tried the Ponaris 4 days ago, while it tasted absolutely horrible going down into my throat, I found 95% relief from wracking cough, itchy nose disappeared, sneezing, and a big difference in my postnasal drip. I continue to wonder why my physician allergist did not recommend it as he stated my nasal turbinates are dry all the way down and offered no remedy other than bedroom humidificatiohn which i always have anyway. So going to get some Ayr-gel as someone suggested and the Zpap..but don't know what that is...but going to religiously follow this regimen forever...using my ponaris 4 to 5 times a day. After all these years all I could picture was going into the nursing home with this wracking, debilitating cough and pnd....no more worry now! I must add tho that the stuff taste horrible but it's a small price to pay for the longlasting comfort i'm getting.

I think the "X" just replaces either an "A" or a "C", depending on what you're on. Its a simple way of writing "APAP or CPAP."

Patrice,

Just wanted to comment on the Ponaris Oil. A couple people have mentioned the terrible taste running down their throat, and affecting their stomach.

I am wondering if they may be using too much at a time.
There are no real directions on the bottle, other than a half a dropper in each nostril, BUT my ENT showed me to just use 2 or 3 drops in each nostril, with the head back and then wait about 10-15 seconds with head coming back to normal position and then blow your nose GENTLY. That has seemed to work well for me, and then you're not swallowing a bunch of it, and wasting more than you need to use.

Hope that makes sense.

I'm off to use mine right now, thanks for the reminder!

Joyce,
My ex is a pharmacist at Walgreen's, and he says that they will take almost anything back if you don't like it. Just bring it in with your receipt and they'll refund it. The clerk may have to get a manager, but they don't mind. People do it all the time (especially the over-80 crowd--they will truly return ANYTHING!).

I got a bottle and I'm not particularly impressed, either. I didn't have a bad reaction, just didn't really do much. I'll probably try it again but it didn't leave a good first impression on me.

EDIT: I just noticed the date on your post, Joyce! Ooops! You have probably gotten rid of that stuff by now!
