I have noticed more pictures lately. How do you put a picture beside the topic?

CareS,

Paste the URL for the picture into your post. Highlight the test and the pick the "Img" button. If it is a picture you have on you computer, you will have to upload it to an image host and then copy and paste the URL.
Sincerely,

Wader's description is for putting pictures into the body of the text where you post comments and questions (not the avatar picture next to your username, sometimes the difference is confusing to some).

Wader is right about needing a host to create a URL needed here. One easy one to use is:

http://www.photobucket.com

You pull a photo into this site and it creates a URL. You then copy that URL address and paste it into this message area. You hit "image" first, then paste in your URL address, then hit "Img" again to complete the process, then submit. (and you can add your own text message with it).

If you want an avatar (graphic or photo) shown under your username everytime you post to a topic, you do that by going into your profile, browse for the picture you want, and add it. There are restrictions as to size. And there are a couple different ways to add your avatar. I love my orb with the lightning in it. ...!

The direct posting of an Avatar without linking to something offsite seems about impossible to hold to the 8kb size limit, even if you can compress to the size and have good image compression software. I was barely able to compress my snork gif image, but any photos turned into a couple blocks of color and STILL exceeded the size limit.

Yes, it is difficult. And linking to offsite seems the easiest. That's how I got my current avatar. I found one I liked that someone was using on another discussion board (quite a different topic and not from someone likely to use this one). I right clicked on it, went to properties, found their url address, copied it, then pasted that into my profile for use as my own avatar. That worked fine, and I didn't have to manipulate the size of the graphic.

Thanks for your kind advice. What is an URL, also what is an avitar. I am a very novice computer user but I am sure my son will explain things to me as he always comes to my rescue when I have computer problems. Thanks again. CareS

An Avatar is that little picture you see to the left of many peoples's posts
<<<<<<<<<
Sort of a picture signature.

A URL is the address of a location of something on the web. i.e. http://www.cpaptalk.com is the "URL" of a really cool forum for sleep apnea support.
