Hans Rudolph Mask

Post by Severeena » Mon May 02, 2005 5:48 am

I know someone on the forum has a Hans Rudolph ordered.

I was looking at the mask on line and I really got confused because of the sizes.

How did you make sure you got the right size?

My Mirage Ultra is a small, so would the Hans Rudolph be a small also or should I request the caliper and then send it back when I order the mask.

I found out that Tom is being kept awake by this so called best mask, because of all the obscene noises it is making. I even made my own head gear for it and that still didn't work.

I told him about the Hans Rudolph and he is willing to purchase it for me so he can get his sleep with his non leaking gel filled nasal mask.

Severeena, if you need a small mask, I seriously doubt that the Hans Rudolph "small" will be small enough for you.

I can wear a small or a medium in most masks of just about any type.

I bought a Hans Rudolph full face mask "small". It was HUGE on my face. It was the leakiest mask I've ever put on. I'm quite willing to add all kinds of tweaks to a mask to make it work, but nothing I tried could stop the constant leaks around the edges of the HR FF "small" mask on my face.

Of course, everyone's facial structure is different. Maybe it would be fine for you, but it sure is a costly experiment to try if you really need a "small" in most masks. The HR FF is just a rather big mask in general, I think.

I think the Hans Rudolph Full Face Mask is a great alternative to my usual Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask. The sizing, though, is completely unlike other masks, in that there are five sizes: large, medium, small, extra small, and petite. H-R also offers a "Sensa Seal" option for the nasal bridge as an additional way to stop leaks around the eyes, so there is even more "fine-tuning" possible in mask fit.

Hans-Rudolph sends you a "mask sizing caliper" so you can accurately measure your face (using either inches or millimeters) and discuss fit with them before ordering. I found the customer service to be amazingly quick and helpful when I emailed them with my initial inquiry. Email is hri@rudolphkc.com and website is http://www.rudolphkc.com.

It is a good option, and a relief from the Ultra Mirage eye leaks, at least for me.

Thanks for the info about the sizes, Guest. Perhaps I'd have had a very different experience with the HR FF mask if it had been a "very small" or a "petite".

bucking the odds

Post by snork1 » Mon May 02, 2005 10:44 pm

Wow, well this certainly is proof that every mask has SOMEONE that it seems to work out well for.

This is the first positive posting I have EVER seen on the Hans Rudolph mask....unless the mask being dishwasher safe is your priority.

Too bad we can't all test drive all the masks to find that obscure mask thats the holy grail for each of us, even if its a disaster for everyone else.

Guest tell me I am also looking for an alternative to the mirage full face mask.

I am considering the hans rudolph ff mask but cannot find a price for it. I can't even find it on their website.

How long have you had it and how often do you use it?

You are the first person that I have come across that has had anything positive to say about it so it is good to have an alternative mask to be able to use that does not have a massive leak problem.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us

I have found the price of the Hans Rudolph online for 246.00 this includes the head gear. The mask only for small and extra small 181.00

I think I found it at the CPAP store online.

I wentr searching and I have found five stores in my area that handle the Hans Rudolph. I may give one of them a call and ask for a fitting.

I live in the southeastern part of Wisconsin. about 2.5 hours from Chicago.

I received quite a bit of Hans Rudolph Mask information in the mail today along with the face calliper. How do you read this thing..

If any one has this calliper, maybe you can help me.

Thanks

Tired daddy thank you for the link. Very useful. I am seriously considering this mask.

However there do not appear to be many people out there coming forward saying how wonderful a mask it is for them which makes me somewhat hesitant in splashing out all that dosh!

Unless you're a blockhead skip the HR.

Remember this. Activa, Activa, Activa. Just keep saying it. You'll get the hang of it. Activa !

Activa ...another vote

Post by snork1 » Thu May 05, 2005 8:08 pm

as non-PC as Guest put it, I would tend to agree. I am not sure I understand the justification for plunking down $250 for a mask that only a VERY VERY few seem to like, when for around a $100 you can get an Activa that MANY MANY people like.

Its ALL a matter of odds, to find the holy grail of masks for YOU, but I like to at least stack the odds in my favor, unless I was rich enough to just try them all...which I would...but then I am just such a mask whore myself.....

Since Resmed hasn't come out with an Activa type seal in a FF mask, and so many are having problems these days getting the once wonderful Resmed Mirage Ultra to seal, I don't blame them for looking elsewhere for a different FF mask.

I do recall when I was looking for an alternative mask that the description on the Mirage Ultra said DO NOT TIGHTEN STRAPS that it works better when straps are merely snug. And yet we hear of so many tightening, tightening, tightening until their heads are swollen like sausages trying to do away with leaks.

Granted this is the initial response but like the Activa, maybe looser is better.

Thank you for your response guest. I actually have an activa and personally find it useless and a complete and utter waste of money, since I had to pay for it myself. I wore it 3 times before discarding it.

I have oily skin and despite thorough cleansing regimes within just a few hours of ware it leaks very badly due to excess oil from my face breaking the seal as the mask slides around on my face with massive leaks.

I have trawled through the posts and have done all the things suggested with no success.

I have also come across other people who have found the same problem as me due to excessive facial oils.

However I now need to wear a ffmask due to mouth leaks.
