Forum Help

Dang it. The forum only lets me post with my registered name 50% of the time. After I log on, I've tried not putting my register name/user name (Vicki) in the post user name field, which worked when I tested it, but didn't work just now and made me a guest.

If I type my username in the username field after I've logged on, it tells me that my user name is already in use.

Urggg, what do I need to do?

Hi,

I don't know about you, but this forum works quirky for me too.

The automatic log on doesn't work for me.

And when I first bring up the forum, I have to type in my username and my password twice!

The first time I do it, my name registers at the bottom of the screen, but not at the top, where it says "Log Out" followed by your username.

I have to log on a second time in order for my username appears next to the Log Out button. If your username doesn't appear there, then it hasn't worked for you and you're a guest. I found that if I then log out, but don't get out of the forum, I only need to log on once to get back on as a registered user.

Try logging in twice.

It's a pain, but you get used to it.

Hi VickiZsPlease,

I have also had problems logging on. I find that if I log in once, the register box at the top of the page continues to say register. If I log in twice, it changes to "Log out [glassgal]" and I am REALLY logged in. My belief is that it has to do with the security settings on your computer and tracking cookies. I don't want to lower my security, so I log in twice.

I don't know if this will work for you -- you may need to tweek you security on your computer to get the log in to work.

If you are a guest, you cannot use your regular user name, but can put another number or letter at the end to make it different.

I hope that this helps!
Sleep well,

Jane

Oh thanks bunches! Glad to know I'm not just being incompetent!! I just noticed also that when I post and I'm really logged on, the user name field is gone above the subject field, because I suppose, I'm recognized. We'll see here!!

Thanks Again!!

I don't know if this will help, but...

I find that when I come in, my best bet is to click on the "Check mail" link (or the "Log In to Check Your Mail" if I'm not logged in).

If I am logged in, that refreshes it (oddly, sometimes when it shows me logged in, I am not really, and my posts say "Guest"). If I'm NOT logged in, that takes me to the login page, where I log in.

I've tried logging in using the fields at the top of the page, and they don't seem to work.

Anyway, since I started every session by clicking that link in the upper right corner, I have only had ONE posting "guested", and it was because I was on a machine at a friend's house, and he (in a fit of extreme paranoia) had turned off all cookies. Don't ask me how he gets ANY sites to work...

Liam, no longer a guest...

And I NEVER have problems logging in. I'm wondering if those who have problems have their security settings very high so as not to allow cookies, because that is what is saving your login information. Try adjusting your Windows security settings to a lower level and see if you still have problems.

Hi,

I never log in but nor have I ever logged out. Have never had any problems. My security is fairly strick and the only thing that seems to get by are the ads for enhancing the performance of my other hose!

Wow, you have more than one? I've got several masks, but only the one hose.

Oh, you meant... oh. >blush<

Liam, who's generally too pure to "get" such lewd comments.

I checked the "always log me in"....but it doesn't.
I THINK every time I shut down the computer I have to log in again when I fire up the computer again, no matter what I check.

Of course I don't notice this until I have typed in a reply and am about to hit the submit. So at that point I copy the text, bail out, log back in, get back into the topic, and paste my reply in again. Evenutally I will remember to check if I am logged into the forum FIRST.

But I still much prefer THIS forum, just from the standpoint that another excellent apnea forum I frequent changed their format and now it takes F O R E V E R to load and run. I can whip through a bunch of topics here in the time it takes the other forum to even show up.
