Strange sdb dreams

Post by Rachael - Artmom » Thu Dec 13, 2007 7:53 pm

I think my treatment has been off lately, I have had lot's of headaches and other symptoms, but mostly I have had a return of my choking to death dreams, which got me curious what other apnea dreams people might have had.

Mine has a variable set-up, but I always end up with a giant wad of chewing gum in my mouth and its stuck to my teeth and throat and I pull, and pull, but I can't get it out and it's hard to breath and I am starting to panic... and then I wake up with a dry mouth, my heart pounding, and I have to pee. I always have a migraine the day after that dream.

So? Any other strange dreams? I read in an article somewhere that a sign or symptom of SDB was dreams about choking or suffocating.

Rachael,

I looked up one of your logged-in posts and it showed a ComfortGel mask in your profile.
My guess would be that you may be mouth-leaking and thus minimizing your therapy.
Dry mouth when you wake up? That would be a clue. Tape, Polident adhesive denture strips or a full face mask will fix that.

I've only had one "bad dream" on CPAP and it was when I was trying a nasal mask. It's tough to describe but it was like my dream was in a red bloody frame. It was the first time in my entire life I felt that weird (besides some panic attacks lol). But the next day I discover that a nasal mask wasn't for me and I had huge leaks from my mouth opening all night. The fact that you dream that you are choking might actually not be a dream at all and just sleep apnea that isn't treated.

I would definitely use Wulfman advice of either taping your mouth (if you can breathe properly from the nose that is) or try a full face mask.

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys, I do sometimes have mouth breathing problems, though in this case my humidifier was broken. I tried tape and a chin strap but they made me freak out, too claustrophobic or something. When I went to get a new humidifier I tried on a full face mask and I think I am going to buy one from our hosts right after the holidays.
