Got the summary from my second sleep study sent to my doctor. My doc is a neurologist and is no expert on sleep. This is good and bad. Good part is that I basically told him exactly what to put on the prescription and he did it, no problem. Below is what is on the script:
1) Respironics REMstar M Series Auto CPAP w/A-flex (w/integrated heated humidifier
2) Minimum Pressure 5cms/H2O
3) Maximum Pressure 12cms/H2O
4) A-Flex setting 3
5) Ramp off
6) Show AHI/ Leak feature ON
7) Integrated Smartcard module w/smartcard
Encore Pro Data Software (v. 1.8i or later)
9) Provider's manual
10) Nasal mask, Full Face mask, or Nasal Pillows mask of patient's choice
The bad (possibly) is that the sleep study summary states that they started me out on 5cms/H2O and titrated up to an optimum of 12cms/H2O which eliminated snoring, apneas and hypopneas.
Question is: If 12cms/H2O is the optimum pressure, should the max/min be as specified. Again, believe they just filled in the numbers based on starting pressure up to optimum.
Note: I informed the DME that I needed all the extras because my company has a tendancy to send me overseas (sometimes years at a time), which is true. Keeping fingers crossed that I will get all that is on the script....

It will be interesting if you get the Encore Pro with the script. If not inquire about the Encore Viewer which is for patients.

That makes me think. Should I have asked for the viewer instead of the full blown pro software? I am pretty computer literate but want the software that will give me the information I need. Also read that I will need Microsoft SQL server installed to use this. Should I ask the doc to change the script?
Dad.....
Your "cookin" now........You're on the way.
Encore Pro 1.8 is the way to go....if you can get a vendor to sell it to you. I suspect, however, that it will not be available. The main reason why 1.8 is preferable has to do with James Skinner's Analyzer software being compatible with it. At present, Analyzer will not work with Encore Viewer....so that's why you want 1.8 if you can get your hands on it.
In my opinion, Skinner's program is vital when it comes to tweaking your pressures for greatest benefit and the most comfort. One of his charts is "Pressure vs AHI" in a line curve format. After you've gathered data for a while, this chart will help you find your "sweet spot". I couldn't do well without it.
Don't worry about the SQL database....it's installed when you get 1.8 up and running.
Make the effort to get 1.8....but don't get discouraged if they won't sell it to you. Sometimes, software mysteriously appears. Santa always knows when boys and girls have been good.
