Purchasing a Remstar which is about to be discontinued???
Hello everyone. As my wife prepares for her third night with a loaner machine(s8 autoset vantage) from our sleep clinic to gauge her progress and make a recommendation for a permanent cpap machine, we have been looking at units and reading the recommendations from this community and like what we hear about the Remstar with C-Flex. We have the opportunity to purchase a pre-owned Remstar Auto with C-flex, heated humidifier etc. that has about 1000 hours on it at a very good price. From what we have read, this model is being discontinued as it it being replaced with the "M" series units. We would like to know if we should also discontinue with the idea of purchasing this unit, or would it still be a good unit to consider. Thank you and we await your opinions and advice.

It is a good unit. I had(have) one with almost 5000 hours on the blower. Never has given me a problem....
But I just replaced it with M-series with A-flex. I mainly just wanted to try the A-flex. So, far I like it better.
So, I would say... if you can get a GOOD deal on it... and if that is what you are looking for... go for it.

Depending on a few parameters, I would not feel uncomfortable about doing that......in fact, about a year and a half ago, I DID.orcon123 wrote:Hello everyone. 1000 hours is not many.....the one I bought from a forum member had about 1700 hours on it and I've come close to putting about that many more on it. It still works great and I've been using it for the last couple of months (I rotate the three machines that I have).
Price? If the price is right, that's a good reason to feel comfortable about the deal.
Do you feel like you know the person you're purchasing it from? That means a lot, too.
The "Legacy"/"Classic"/"Tank"/"Pre-M" models are the ones I prefer and would be glad to use them for the rest of my life......and am planning to. I would hate to have to give them up for an M Series machine.

I would reather have the older than the new. Bying used is a pig in a poke, be sure toy don't get poked. $300 to 350 may be a fair price for it with the HH, before I spent more I would get new online from cpap.com, I bought 1 new one here and one used on auction, I have 4000 hours on the used one, the new one is still new. Aflex might be better, but it doesn't come on the older machine, and I won't trade down to get it. Jim

Orcon123, I have this Remstar AUTO myself and I have to say, I LOVE IT and wish I had one more as a back-up machine, my dme said this is the VERY BEST MACHINE REMSTAR has ever made ! It's truly a classic... I hate to pry but how much are you paying for it???? I got a brand new one for $599.00 and the heated humidifier is only $50.00 more when you bundle them togother So, you really need to do your homework on this one before buying the used one.... Have you gone to cpap.com and checked out their bundeled deal on this machine??? There's are brand new. Also, I WOULDN'T EVER BUY A STRAIGHT REMSTAR PRO as that machine blows a STRAIGHT force of air say at 9 or 10, etc. allnight long and with the AUTO, it automatically adjusts the air flow to what you need constantly and it also has the EXHALE FEATURE, that's called total comfort, awwww

The older pre-M Respironics REMstar Auto with C-flex is an excellent machine, imho. I used one for over a year. Would still be using it if I didn't enjoy the BiPAP Auto so much.

Thank you everyone for your comments, opinions, and advice. We feel we are going to take a closer look at this machine and probably purchase it. We were concerned about how many hours such a unit should last but see from one of the posts that 1000 hours is not considered many. Another concern was the availability of parts, filters, etc. since the machine is being phased out, but with so many of these units out there, I am sure this should not pose a problem for a few years anyway. To SleepyNoMore, No, we don't feel you were prying regarding the price. The price of the RemStar Auto with heated humidifier & C-flex with a carrying case, all manulals, hose, Nasel+full face mask is $350.00 Now given that we live in central Canada, and not having to do exchange rate, shipping, and any other fees, we feel that this is not a bad price. Although we did look at the price for the combined unit from cpap.com and felt it was a good price as well, when the same unit sells here in Canada for $1750.00. we will defiantly be purchasing our accessories such as masks, filters, etc from cpap.com as prices are considerably lower.
One thing you need to watch out for, the patient hours can be reset to appear to be newer. It also keeps track to Blower Hours, that can't be user reset, and are true hours. Jim
You never know you got a bargin, until time passes, I paid $350 for one with 350 hours on it, but it was reset and the SN# was removed. I was worried, but I now have put 3500 hours on it and it only messed up one time. (went crasy had to reset the electric ReBoot) So it has been a good buy.
