Get on the machine or get off the highways!
It would be hard to regulate I understand it sucks but really their is no easy solution. Even before I was undiagnosed my husband who doesnt have OSA is more likely to fall asleep standing up then I was. Hes just that type of person who can sleep anywhere and he works hard. I on the other hand can be dead tired and still cant take a nap alot of the time I feel the need to. Youd have to be able to measure tiredness in all drivers not just OSA I dare say there are just as many drivers out there that are tired drivers without OSA as there are tired drivers with OSA. ANd as stated before people would just stop going to the sleep lab to avoid the chance of restrictions on their liscense - with as stubborn as some people are to go and see a doc in the first place (cough men cough cough ) this one just be one more deterent I think. SOmeone mentioned higher penalties - this too sounds great but really how do you know if someone fell asleep? Theres just no easy solution 0- the best we can do is inform people out there that it exists and help make it easier with support and info to help them be compliant I think.

I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes -- but we have became a society that is so dependent on our driving privileges that they are taken for granted. Kids today expect a liscense like it is a right and not as a privilege.
It would be virtually impossible to screen everyone that should be taken off the roads. Just a few days ago I was on my way to work and when a teen ager with a "monster truck" that was higher off the ground my car is tall cut me off. He pulled right in my lane and I had to swerve into the on coming lane to (thank goodness it was empty) escape being ran over. He was extremely careless and foolish. With that attitude he doesn't need to be driving.
Then there are those that have medical problems that make them unsafe. I have a friend that has a seizure disorder, diabetes, and has had one leg removed. He has had numerous wrecks, yet the state continues to let him drive. Should he be on the road -- not in my opinion.
It is just that I think if you have a medical condition that makes it unsafe for you to drive you should be willing to seek treatment so that the condition does not contribute to the already dangerous situations that are encountered on the roads today.

I'm in a funny mood.... I just envisioned me plugging in my cpap to the cigarrette lighter for those long drives to Sacramento....
Might make going through the mountains on the ice with truckers all around nearly bearable for me! I'm sure PEACE would be the appropriate PurSleep to use in that situation....
LOL,
Babs
