Opus 360 vs. Original Opus

Post by greyhound » Mon Dec 03, 2007 8:22 am

I've read the product description, but does anyone have any first hand experience with the Opus 360 and the original Opus? I'm particularly interested in the size and shape of the pillows. I found the original Opus to more comfortable than my Swift, but the large pillows were slightly smaller than the Swifts and that led leaks which I couldn't control.

I didn't realize the Opus had already be revised ... it only came out this year (Feb 07 in US) didn't it?

I think it came out (in the US) at the beginning of the year.

Just took a look at the "new" highlights lsted by CPAP.com web page:
  • (New) Anatomically Shaped Pillows - These pillows allow for easy and comfortable fitting and a premium seal. The contours in the new shape and design of the pillows ensures even more comfort.
  • (New) Contoured Mask Frame - Three dimensional support architecture allows the Contoured Mask Frame to conform naturally to your face which enhances comfort and fit while also providing dependable support. The narrow design permits side-sleeping without the mask being pushed out of place.
  • (New) Redesigned Headgear - Much improved, the new headgear has a Hidden Strap Release for simple one step removal for cleaning and it allows you to take it apart and put it back together without the need to re-adjust the straps.
Hmmm … I wonder if the new pillows fit the original Opus mask?

In any case, I would like to know how the mask frame is different from the original too. I did not have any issues with the original headgear.

That's why I was asking if anyone had first hand experience.

New Opus 360 (HC482a) is great!

Post by BigFred » Mon Dec 03, 2007 9:32 am

I just received one of the revised Opus masks this past week and I must say that not only did they fix many of the problems with the original one, but it is the easiest to use and lightest of all the masks that I have tried.. By the way, I started in this stuff in 1991!

I did discover that they really mean it when they say don't over tighten the top straps.. I also got the cheek marks and since apparently there isn's a Pad A Cheek available, I used the large tubal toe bandages which seem to work just fine.. Among other fixes, they changed the connectors so that you can take the headband off without losing the adjustments but adding a hidden disconnect.

While it has only been a week, I must say that I am really happy at the moment! I hope this helps.. Big Fred..

Just PM Karen. She'll make a new Pad-a-Cheeks in short order, I'm sure.
Thank You,

Fred, how does the size of the revised Opus' large cushions compare to the large Swift cushions? The original Opus cushions were slightly smaller and this caused a leak problem to my "slotted nares".

With respect to the pad-a-cheek, try e-mailing or PMing Karen directly. She has, or can make, PACs that are not yet on her website.

Can you post pics or give more details re: differences? Can you describe what you mean by the "many problems" you had before?

The original was also easy to use and lightest of all of the masks ... and the headband was already easy to take off and put on. I already placed a question to CPAP.com to see if the new Opus 360 pillows will fit the original Opus mask ... haven't heard back yet.

EDIT UPDATE:

Uh duhhh ... I just now noticed the in-house comments for the Opus 360 web page at cpap.com.
The only parts that are interchangeable between the old Original Opus Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask and the new Opus 360 Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask are the actual nasal pillows themselves. The new headgear, tubing and swivel are not interchangeable.

Questions about Opus 360 features..

Post by BigFred » Mon Dec 03, 2007 1:30 pm

I believe that the list of changes provided by the CPAP.COM site address most of those I have read on earlier posts to this forum. I didn't have the earlier Opus; however, one of the key issues seemed to be the softness of the body of the nose piece and someone made a velcro support for it. I used that idea on my Optilife with great success.

I have both the Swift I and the Swift II (as well as many other devices) and am able to use them; however, one of the things I like about the Opus is the part of the nose pieces that go into the nose is longer (like one version of pillows that I used with my Adam) and thus it seems to stay in the nose better. Otherwise, it looks like that the general size of the nose pieces are similar. One improvement in both the Opus and the Swift II is the texture of the nose pieces material seems to help stablize them.

I suggest looking at the videos that CPAP.COM makes available.

Like every other device I have tried, some tuning is necessary; however, I found the Opus easier than most.

Fred..

Well I guess I may have to just get one to compare for myself and report back what actual differences have been implemented.

Thanks.

I couldn't get the Opus to seal well for me. I would be curious to try the new pillows to see if they work better for me. So far, the only pillows I have been able to get to work for me consistently have been the swift II. I have many unusable pillows masks in the drawer and would love the chance to use the opus as it seems so lightweight. I hope others will report their comparisons with these pillows.

Hope cpap.com stocks them soon!

Jen

That's my problem, too, and the reason I asked about whether the new Opus cushion sizes were the same (i.e., problematical) as the old ones. Like you, I can use the Swift, but not the Opus. I'd love to be able to use the Opus because it is more comfortable than the Swift.
