Christy, are you using plenty of Neosporin or equivalent in your nose in the AM to try to heal it? Reapply throughout the day. If you switch masks, keep applying at night. Though I don't recommend using it at night with the NAII.

You definitely need a back-up mask right now. I think you'll get over the irritation, just persevere. HUGS!!!!!

BTW - call your DME and tell them to get you another mask PRONTO.

Carol, how's your nose coming along?

Mine's been blood-free (never did have pain, just blood and a persistent scab) since I upped my humidity.

CAROL! DARLING!!! I finally opened the box last night. MERRY XMAS TO ME!!!! They're PERFECT!!!! And they match my sheets!!!! I love them! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shows you how tired I can be. I got that box last week, and it's been sitting on the end table and I've just been too tired to open it. Sheesh! Last night I forced myself to go to the gym, and go grocery shopping, so before I collapsed of utter exhaustion, I decided to open it. I'm so glad I did!

I think your design is perfect. My little "pants" idea was too complicated. I pulled my home-made "snuggle hose" up over the swivel joint, and slid your tubes on, and then attached it all to my chinstrap.

Your covers keep the tubes from sliding up and down inside the velcro straps of the chinstrap, so I didn't have to adjust tension ONCE last night! Whoopee!!!

You know how when you're just WHIPPED everything makes you cry? I nearly cried with joy when I opened the box last night. IT'S THE BEST XMAS PRESENT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!!!!!
Babs

Babs I am so glad you like them!!! I didn't try them on my tubing so was hoping I didn't get them too small. If you want I can make you an extra pair to have on hand for your Christmas present. I have pink, white, and of course blue fleece. You do have a snuggle hose don't you? I am going to make an extra one in case I need it -- you want an extra?

My nose has developed a sore on the inside edge. I have been doctoring it but so far it is still bleeding at times and is really really sore. I have went back to just a plain nasal mask in hopes that it will heal up. I do miss the NA and have less leaks with it than any other mask that I have used!! If I would have kept the medium plus I would try those for awhile to give my nose time to heal. I kept the large and they really irritate my nose at this time. I am going to watch cpapauction and try to get me another NA that has the different size cannula with it. I figure you could use any that I don't want.

I'd happily send you a Medium Plus in return for some snugglies! I have two snuggle-hoses, one for home, one for travel, but an extra set of NAII snugglies for the "travel" mask would be great. Oooo! Then all I have to do is buy the travel CPAP!

As for nose irritation, I haven't had irritation on the outer nare with the NAII, but I have with other pillows type masks. I found repeated applications of Ayr Gel and Neosporin, several times a day, helped much.

Is it possible you were getting condensation moisture? That moisture could lead to irritation between the silicone and your skin. If I get any rainout, I can feel the irritation develop on my upper lip.

Okay, you have a deal. I'll send you an MP tomorrow!

Huggers,
B.

Babs, I received the medium plus yesterday and tried them last night.

I need some suggestions!!! Please give me some hints or ideas if you or Jerry or anyone can come up with some.

It felt good not to have so much weight on my poor head/face last night!! I used the NA for a few hours and got up to take a bathroom break. When I laid back down the prongs would NOT stay in no matter what I did. I rolled them prior to inserting, tried to insert them deeper, tried them shallower, and after about an hour of constantly working on them gave up. My nose is pretty much healed up but still tender and don't want to use the large for a few more days so I don't rehurt it.

Any suggestions?

I have had this problem from time to time. I would finally have to turn the light on and get a mirror to get them in right. Look at the angle, you can roll them on the connectors and sometimes make it better. I no longer take them off. I slip the hose off the swivel, it is small (too small for a quick connector to hold) and disconnects easy. Take my break, hook up the hose and take a breath to auto start and back to sleepyland.

Jerry I didn't take the mask off for the potty break -- I just disconnected it at the hose as your suggestion from a while back. I am going to try again tonight and see what happens -- maybe a different angle will help.

Thanks.

Carol, sometimes you just have a bad nose night. I had one last night. I had just washed my prongs, so they should have been leak free, but for some reason they kept twisting and leaking on me. I fiddled with them alot last night.

I say do a full re-set: wash your prongs, give them a good vinegar soak, re-do all your headgear, and do this in front of a mirror.

One of the things I do is grab the sides of the prongs where they attach, and twist TOWARDS my face, so the vents move UP. Even though it kind of feels like the prong openings are now facing the bottom of my nose, it tends to work well for me.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
Babs

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Whee!!! Thank you!!!! New Years just has to be better than Xmas!!!

Oh, another thought - you might try tweaking the angle and tension of your headgear. I'm finding that as time goes by, and the cannula gets softer and softer, I really have to pull the cannula up tight so that it very nearly "Vees" up around my nose to get a good seal.

When it's hard and new, that actually seems to defeat the seal for me. The looser I can leave it, the better.

Good luck!
B.

Women only change after you OWN THEM and SLEEP WITH THEM NIGHTLY!

Oh yeah, I guess that IS the definition of "bad mask night".

LOL,

OK I finally got my computer working again, and I've sure missed you guys.

Thanks but what I need is to qualify for my 6 month mask with Kaiser. I may try and see if I can get a FF now since one thing seems to happen after another. Now I have a what I'm sure is a Sinus infection. May need to go to the Dr. it's been over a week and I'm can't stand the Head aches anymore, and it makes using BiPAP impossible at least with the NAII.

Yeah I pampered my poor split nose. I've told my husband if he hits me in the middle of the night again I was gonna beat him up. A Back up would be nice. I'm gonna call Kaiser up tomorrow and see how long it is till I qualify. If it's to far away I may just have to bite the bullet and go in for a fitting for a FF.

Hope everyone had a good new year.
