How can I get a data file from Encore Pro?

Post by kteague » Mon Nov 26, 2007 8:58 am

Hi. Trying to export a data file from Encore Pro instead of the graphs. Have been unable to figure it out myself. Tried the Export Patient feature and it bogs down my computer with no usable output. I'd really like to end up with an Excel file I can manipulate. Am I hoping for too much? (Was able to accomplish this easily in Resmed's Autoscan.)

I remember reading a thread which regards importing into excel, great tips from James Skinner. However I have not tried this myself. Look at the last few threads.

No coding required. In Excel use the Data->Import External Data menu and walk through the wizard. Let me know if you need more detials...

Kathy,

Are you using James Skinner's Encore Pro Analyzer?
I don't know how many more graphs you want to see or make, but the "add-in" programs make the trends much easier to follow than the Encore Pro/Viewer ever will.

Hi Kathy,

When you export patient it should create an "xml" file which is readable by Excel. That said, it is a humongous file containing data on just about every minute or second with multiple records per event. It would take a bit of work to condense it down to something usable.

That said, perhaps someone else has figured out how to do that. One can reproduce the reports created when one downloads data and one can produce reports of pressure and compliance. I haven't been able to figure out a non-programming way of just getting data out into Excel. What James Skinner reports in that thread is, I think(!) the summary of SQL Server segments that he uses for EPA.

What I'm looking for

Post by kteague » Tue Nov 27, 2007 6:46 am

Here's what I was trying to accomplish... I am working with my sleep doc on my sleep hygiene due to frequent awakenings throughout the night. If I had the mask-on and mask-off times in a data file I could play around with it and look for patterns. For instance, did staying up for a while result in longer or shorter blocks of sleep when going back to sleep. Did bedtime affect length of 1st block of time, etc. My doc wants me in bed early, and that doesn't come natural for me - need to see evidence that it would indeed be beneficial and not just cause more restlessness. Okay - sometimes I overthink things. This is probably one of those times.

In the detailed data that should be available ... the challenge will be to find the specific codes in the data. If I have a chance, I'll take a look to see if I can fairly easily identify it. Probably won't have time until this weekend.

Kathy, I'm only half joking:

Are you sure you don't want to switch to a PB 420E - you'll have all the data, an unlimited number of sessions per 24 hours, and an export option as well....
