I just decided to start tracking my data. I have always checked it, but just started writing it down. My AHI averages goes between 2.6 and 4.5. For last several days my AI (Apnea Index) has been between .1 and .3 while my HI (Hypopnea Index) has made up the difference (2.5 to 4.2). Which one is typically lower? Is one more siginificant than the other? While I am not 100% sure, I think this is opposite of how it was before I started trying the APAP and recording my info. I think my AI used to be the higher one? Could that be?

It would make sense that you AI and HI numbers switch.
Resmed's are know for recording more HI than other machines, because of the way their sensing rules are set up.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

My AI and HI numbers swapped as my pressure became more dialed in. My AI numbers are very low - .1 or .3, but my HI numbers are 1.8 to 3.5 or so and that's frustrating, but the AI number is the real important one to keep very low.
AI's reflect obstructives and HI's reflect "shallow breath" if I'm reading things correctly. (others can correct me if I'm wrong -- please)
As long as the AHI is below 5 it's good......
Hope this helps a bit
take care
cheers

Wars arise from a failure to understand one another's humanness. Instead of summit meetings, why not have families meet for a picnic and get to know each other while the children play together?

Goodness! Those are wonderful numbers, reflecting excellent treatment!!goose wrote:my HI numbers are 1.8 to 3.5 or so and that's frustrating
Anything below an AHI of 5.0 is "normal", so those HI's added to your piddling little .whatever AI's... you're doing great, goose.
Total AHI of 3.0 or even less...I sure wouldn't be frustrated seeing those nice numbers.

When I had my first annual check up a few weeks ago I asked my sleep doc if he knew how accurate the AI and HI numbers were that my Respironics Remstar Pro M Series reported.
He didn't have good info and said since I had not had an oxygen study done since I got my machine, that he would prescribe one. I could then take a look at the study and see if there was any correlation between any low oxygen levels and any HI or AI occurrences.
I had two low (less than 90%) oxygen levels that night (an 86% and a very short 84% - the average was 93 percent) and both were associated with HIs rather than AIs.
Of course a one night study doesn't really show too much, but still it was interesting and I thought surprising that the low oxygen levels were associated with HIs rather than AIs.
For what it's worth - before cpap my oxygen levels were in the low 70% area a significant part of my sleeping time.
