Congestion and trouble exhaling - New to CPAP

Post by kwa430 » Thu Nov 15, 2007 7:22 am

I've now been on CPAP for 1 week. Last night, due to frustration with trying to get used to the equipment, I didn't use tyhe machine. I won't be making that blunder again. I didn't realize how much the CPAP was doing, even if I only had it on for a few hours.

Anyway, I wanted to ask about trouble exhaling. I have small nasal and throat passages. I love the air coming in, but, it seems to take alot of work exhaling and makes me feel like I'm getting a stuffed up nose. Is this normal or is it possible the pressure is set to high?

Thanks

I am new and am still having trouble with cpap but I do know that when I went to a full mask it wasn't hard breathing out like it was with the nose mask.

Welcome, Kwa430.

I'll answer your question in a second, but before that: if you click on the "profile" button on the top of the screen, you can edit your profile to show us your equipment and you can add pressure automtically with every message.

My pressure is low (7-8) - but I had trouble exhaling against it in the beginning, I started out lower, and built it up gradually.

Some machines have exhale relief - if you tell us what your machine is, we can tell you if yours has it.

O.

Your congestion may be caused by improper humidification. Of course it can be caused by non-cpap related issues too.
