Stop Smoking?

Congrats Bonnie!

I'm not using the "Q" word......but the last one I had was on the morning of Oct. 15th......4 weeks ago yesterday. My biggest obstacle is when I'm driving.....the rest of the time, it really doesn't bother me. In the past, I've "abstained" for years at a time and then gave in.....usually for a relatively short period. This time, I'd smoked since Dec. of 1990. Been wanting to "stop" again and finally did.

My dad always smoked and maybe because of the second-hand smoke I became allergic to those things as a kid and never had any desire to ever start.

Hey, Den....maybe we ought to do a side bet to see who can go the longest with out a cigarette.

My problem is I'll be off them for 3-4 weeks, get the urge, satisfy it with one and go another 3-4 weeks smoke free, That desire creeps up again and I have one. After a few weeks it gets more frequent and pretty soon I'm back to full time smoking.

I was on my home from work tonight listening to our local TV news broadcasting on a radio channel. There was a segment on what smoking physically does to your brain complete with pictures and the news guy saying that anyone who is trying to quit will certainly benefit from seeing the pictures. Too bad I was in my car and missed them. I think visuals are a big help. Everyone who smokes knows the dangers, but because of the addictivness it is really hard to quit. I read where looking at graphic pictures of smoker lungs has caused people to quit. I wonder if that would help me stay off cigrettes? Any aid that helps is a good thing no matter how awful.

Magic Pill!

I have been a smoker for the past 27 years. I tried to quit numerous times during those 27 years to quit. Never could quit for longer than a few weeks. Tried the patch, gum and the old prescription medication.

I was prescribed Chantix and used it only 6 weeks and I have now been quit for 10 weeks!


I can be done!

The most important thing to remember is that after you quit, you still only have control over the first cigarette!!!
I just want to go back to sleep!
