loud humidifier

Post by roman » Mon Apr 25, 2005 4:17 pm

I am pretty new here, have been using the CPAP for a week. I cleaned it for the first time this weekend, and ever since, the humidifier has been emitting all kinds of popping, burbling noises. The sound travels up the tubing into the mask and can get pretty loud at times. I checked all the connections, and they seem to be fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips on how to fix?

Many thanks!

Mine's always noisier if I haven't reconnected everything securely. Make sure everything's nice and tight!

I'd check to be sure there isn't any water in the main air hose, left there maybe after rinsing the hose out? Water droplets knocking around in the main air hose can make a lot of noise. Even if you start out with a dry hose, rainout (condensation forming inside the hose as warm humidified air hits the cold plastic) can cause a gurgling sound inside the hose.

Also, filling a humidifier above the "fill line" will cause an absolute uproar of bubbling and gurgling in the chamber itself.

Not saying you did that, roman.... it's something I accidentally did once or twice and had to pour some water out of the chamber to settle it back down.

Thanks for your help! I probably hadn't let my hose dry all the way, so I'll fix that and see if anything changes. It sounds like a fireworks display in my bedroom right now. Not exactly restful.
