I just got woken up (at 5:30am) by a sharp sting on my cheek. I ripped my mask off and still I had this pain in my cheek. I couldn't figure out what was going on! I looked down and on my shirt was a centipede! I jumped out of bed and it fell to the floor. I have it trapped right now. I am just thankful it got me instead of my little sis who climbed into bed with me when she woke up scared!
I am wide awake now!

bite by a centipede under mask strap!
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's off to sleep I go......
Hi auntie,
I know what you mean, those little buggers can be tricky but being bitten can actually be quite a good thing. It means they're in the feeding stage and will soon be really plump and juicy.
Just a couple of questions for you:
1. Which cheek was it - left or right and upper or lower? It can make a big
difference in flavour you know. We have found that for right handed
people the lower left feeding area is the best, just be careful not to
squash them when you squat to pee or wipe up.
2. How did you catch him/her? You didn't specify- and this can also make a
difference. Up here in the great white north there are a number of tried
and true methods. The cheapest of course- and it can be ordered right
of the Walmart gift catalogue is the Multi Leg TrapEZZZ.
There are 40, 60 and the Sure Fire 80 leg traps. Some debate on which
is best as the Sure Fire gets em every time but of course damages more
of the legs which some consider is the best part. The best method by far
is the one my great great grand daddy perfected and passed down to us
young uns. It may not work every time but when it does, man oh man
you got something the neighbors will tell their kin about!
Now this probably won't work for you so you may have to improvise - for
bait we use the lower left cheek of a right pawed!! (got that Janelle) off
white polar bear, the pure white just don't seem to have the same
attraction. What you do is drag it around all the cracks and crevices for
scent, then out the door and place it on top of any old block of ice not
too far from the house. Just use one of the smaller blocks not more
than 20 inches high. Those little critters will scamper like you wouldn't
believe after that bait! When they get about half way up the ice block
they're frozen solid with all those one hundred leggies still intact and you
can just bag em in clear plastic. Freezer bugs we call them.
Bet you have some good recipes with the long growing season and all. Up north here the season is only two or three weeks max so the bananas can be a little tart. But thats OK because when you fry them up with a mess of centipedes the smooth texture and tartness of the bananas really compliments their crunchy sweetness.
Just remember, if that hairy multi legged creature is feasting on you then he/she has probably eaten everything else you can't see. When you fry em up & gobble em down you can rest assured your at the top of the chain.
Happy hunting!

P.S. - Do you know how you can tell if a centipede is in your bedroom at night? Just listen for what sounds like a gentle rush of air - whoosh, then it repeats itself.

centipede
Mike, I have no idea how the centipede got in my room.
Al, I went back to where I trapped it and it was gone! It may come after me again tonight! that is me sleeping with my eyes open!
I don't think I would like to eat centipedes cooked any way because I don't eat meat! Thanks anyway for the great ideas bob!
