Ayr's Cream

Post by Idget » Thu Oct 25, 2007 5:29 am

I have seen suggestions on use of Ayr's cream for those using nose pillows. I have a liberty. Is the cream for sore nose and also help with seal. What is used in the product? Not sure if I should use a petroleum based product with the pillows, may damage over time.

Hi,

Another option is KY liquid or jelly. My sleep doc suggested that one. It helps to prevent sore nose and also helps seal nasal pillows. It's cheap (CVS brand bottle of the stuff was about $6 and looks like it will last about 2 years. I only need 2 drops per night.

According to Mayo Clinic web site, you probably won't want to use petroleum jelly or other oil-based creams/lotions since they can, rarely, over a long period of use cause lipoid pneumonia.

Ayers Gel

Post by jimbassett » Thu Oct 25, 2007 6:37 am

If for some reason you can't use the Ayers there is another product that works equally well which is called LANSINOH. It was designed for breast feeding mothers, but works well for aiding a pillow to seal and nares to heal. It is basically a pure lanolin. It costs around $10 per tube, but goes a long way. Hope you find something that will work for you. Regards jim
