Heated Hose from the USA or from Australia alone?

Post by Ashburnehall03 » Mon Oct 22, 2007 4:10 am

Dear folks,

I am from Germany and happily found out about the heated hose from Australia - hooray!! I wonder about this, though:

can one ONLY get it from Australia, or also from the USA? Because shipping to Germany from USA would go much faster, and I need this thing so urgently...

Also I wonder, does anyone of you know what is the difference about the Aussie heated hose WITHOUT sensor and WITH sensor - what is this thing good for?

And, at last: does anyone of you have difficulties with oesuphagitis as well? My Mum's whole oesophagus is sore because of the cold air, and she can hardly eat, it is a desaster...!

Please answer soon, I am in real trouble!

Thank you so much and all the best for all of you!:-)))

Judith

As far as I know no one in the US makes a heated hose. Australia is the only source that I know of. Sorry.

Jerry

You can only get it from australia. The sensors are for the Puritan Bennet Autopaps. If you have any other brand machine then you do not need the one with the sensor.

If you really mean the oesophagus, the part which brings food down from your mouth to the stomach - the take her to a doctor as soon as possible. Breathing the cold air from a cpap can't cause oesuphagitis (an inflammation of the oesuphagus).

Sleep apnea is at times accompanied by, and at time caused by Gastric Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD for short). This has to be treated, it is not only uncomfortable. The stomach acid, eroding the esophageal lining my bring it to a precancerous - or cancerous condition.

Warm humid air makes the therapy easier to tolerate for many of us.

A stomach discomfort that is caused by cpap - is to much gas - it's called aerophagia, and comes from air being swallow during the night.

It that's what your mom has, you'll find lots of info on that on this site. But if is the esophagus (oesuphagus in Europe) then go to a doctor.

Back to GERD...have her sleep on her left side, acid cannot flow uphill...so I was told. Sleeping on your left side should help if she is facing some simple acid reflux.

http://www.manageyourheartburn.com is a good place to look if you have time.
Some doctors say swallowing air contributes to heartburn, etc.

I also drink Mylanta prior to going to bed. Maalox, Tums, Rolaids might be just as good. If she takes medications at bedtime, take them at least 30 minutes prior to drinking Mylanta, Maalox, etc. because they can change the PH in your digestive system and some meds depend on a certain PH to activate them. My pharmacist told me these things. I recommend you always ask a medical professional knowledgeable in the area you are needing help in.

Your vocal cords secondary function is speech. Primary function is to protect your lungs. If your mum has acid rumbling up towards the entrance to the lungs...the vocal cords may slam shut. Mine do. Called Vocal Cord Dysfunction and you probably don't have it, but it is nice to know about.

Good luck with her, I hope she gets better........
Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.

While you are waiting for the heated hose, you could try wrapping the hose in several layers of fleece and securing the ends tightly with velcro. The other thing I've heard of recently is using a hose shorter than 6 feet. You'd do this by attaching 2 2-foot hoses together. This gives the moisture less time to condense as it travels down the hose. Wrap them in fleece, too. There's a connector you can use here. Perhaps you could find one in Germany.

Good luck with your mum. I hope she feels better soon.
