Interpreting Resmed autoscan 5.7 detail data

Post by track » Wed Oct 17, 2007 3:31 pm

I set my pressure at 8-14 last night, the summary data said my 95% pressure was 12.4 and my maximum pressure was 13.I ramped at 8 for 45 minutes...which was in effect when I went to bed and the one time I got up in the middle of the night. No events at all during the 90 minutes of ramp time.

The detail data shows spikes of pressure up to 15 or 16 during an apnea event. Who is telling the truth here. Is the maximum pressure 13 or is it 15-16?

What was the leak rate during those events? Today's machines are quite good at compensating for leaks and can run above the set pressure to compensate for the leaks. Even my straight CPAP S8 Elite can go above my set pressure to compensate for a high leak rate.

On most of the apnea events there was a direct correlation to leaks....on one or two there was not a correlation...but those two only lasted 10 seconds. The leaks were all under the .4 red line on the graph...but considerably more than the flat line low rate that was recorded most of the night.

Track,

My own experience is that large leaks correspond with Apnea events. Esp in the 14+ CMS ranges.

I imagine the leaks will occur because we stop breathing & then start to move - the mask gets pulled or pushed & air tries to escape.

Slinky's comment makes sense to me.

Good luck

DSM.....I was hoping the apnea event was a RESULT not the cause of the leak. It's a little disconcerting to think I might be gasping for air, twisting and turning while pulling at my mask in desperation all while asleep. I am not sure I want to go to sleep tonight.

Frankly, I see no reason why it could be either/or. The result of a large leak, OR the result of movement caused by the apnea. But what do I know?

This would be an interesting question to ask SAG.
