How to Set-up & other Questions

Post by DHT » Wed Oct 10, 2007 6:41 pm

I just joined this Forum after just reading posts the whole day yesterday... I am in the process of purchasing an AUTO A-Flex CPAP from respironics...

I live in Calgary (Canada) and my technician wants to sell me the machine for $2,400... I see many on-line shops in the USA are selling it for around $700... No wonder, I am not going to buy it here in Canada... These guys still think our dollar is at $0.50 or less! Or they think we're stupid. i feel sorry for older people who don't use the Net and fall for these outrageous prices...

Anyway, can somebody tell me this:

1) Will I be able to set/adjust the pressures on my own after I buy the maching online? My original prescription is Min 7/Max 12 and I understand the machine would come already set up, so my question is for later on... if I need to make changes.

2) How is it done?

3) I read about people using a card reader and a software to view results. Would this software (Encore Viewer) work with my model?

4) Is there anyway to get it online for less than $130? e.g. ebay?

Thanks in advance.

In the states you have to have a prescription to purchase a xpap machine. EBay does not allow the sales of cpap, apap, etc. on their site since it is a prescription item.

My question about eBay was regarding the SOFTWARE.

(Of course, I do have a prescription.)

Card Reader can be purchased for 24.00 and about 7.00 for shipping, works well with Respironics

I reread your post and see now where it was for the software. Sorry I misread. I am addicted to eBay and haven't seen it listed here lately and I have been tracking the cpap stuff pretty close (mask, hoses, filters, etc) -- doesn't mean it is never on there though.

You can check this link for some info on adjusting your own machine;

If you need more help, just post and someone will pop in to give you a hand.

Thank you for this link... So the pressure thingy is under control..

Now, the software part. Will it work with the machine I plan to buy? The new REMstar Auto M with A-Flex?

Is anyone willing to sell a used copy for less?

TIA

Yes, you'll be able to make changes quite easily. Since you're buying it from cpap.com, a "Provider Quick Setup Guide" will come with it, stating how to get into the therapy setup menu on the machine and clearly showing each menu item and what changes can be made to the item's settings.
DHT wrote:2) How is it done?
By following the instructions on the Quick Setup Guide card that will come with the machine.
DHT wrote:3) I read about people using a card reader and a software to view results. Would this software (Encore Viewer) work with my model?
Yes.

I don't know if there's any online place selling Encore Viewer for less. Google search would be the way to find out, I guess.

The least expensive place I know of to buy the correct necessary card reader is here:

ResMed S9 VPAP Auto (ASV)
Humidifier: Integrated + Climate Control hose
Mask: Aeiomed Headrest (deconstructed, with homemade straps
