Leak Rate & Mouth Breathing

Post by Weezer » Mon Oct 08, 2007 7:53 pm

This has probably been covered elsewhere, but...

If my leak rate is low, does that mean I'm not mouth breathing?

I'm thinking about mouth-taping to keep my AHI down, but not sure it's necessary.

I found out I was mouth breathing by looking at my leak rate and AHI numbers. Taping took care of it, but I am not a fan of it.

I'm mouth taping and I don't care for it either but I'm getting used to it. As long as I don't rip skin off in the morning I'm good!

I'd say, yes, low leak rate means you're not mouthbreathing....nor is your mask leaking. If you're getting a nice low leak rate, you're way ahead of the game on both counts!

That is assuming he has his mask leak rate set to match, on his Resmed machine correctly. I imagine many are not set correctly.... Jim
