I have been using Nasonex for years for "non-allergic rhinitis" and to help prevent my recurrent Polyps. If I skip more than 2 mornings in a row then my therapy starts failing - or at least it was when I was on a nasal only mask. It may not be such an issue of on my FF mask since I can get some therapy via mouth too and my mose isnt as important but well see. Also I must take it in the morning - if I do it at night my throat gets raw every time - just thought Id throw that in in case someone is searching for info.

nasonex and colds

Post by catbirdgirl » Sat Nov 17, 2007 12:06 am

ok, I see that nasonex is for allergies and rhinitis. I have a bad cold, and only sometimes have allergic rhinitis.

the doc gave me nasonex. does this make any sense? and is this something I'm going to have to stay on after the cold goes away?

Nasonex

I've been using Nasonex with my CPAP for years. Lately, though, I'm waking up every night after about 4 hours, congested. I though maybe the 4-Hour Sudafed wasn't enough, so I switched to 12-hour, with no improvement.

Now I'm wondering if my problem could be solved by using the Nasonex the right way. I'm going to try 2 sprays, one straight and one angled.

Any other ideas for combating congestion?

Good idea to use 2 sprays per nostril and tilt the head.

I will add that my ent said to use a saline rinse before using a corticosteriod spray. The rinse is to clean the membranes of mucous and allow the medicine to be absorbed.
