A-Flex or C-Flex; what's the difference?

Post by stevoreno » Fri Oct 05, 2007 5:51 am

What's the difference between a machine being an A-Flex type and one being a C-Flex type? Is one better than the other?

C-Flex means you have reduced pressure during exhalation.

A-Flex means you have decreased pressure during exhalation and auto pressure adjust based on certain criteria the machine monitors for.

So would you say going from a straight CPAP machine which I've been on for 8 years with a pressure setting of "16" and I'm scheduled to have a new 2 night sleep lab study in 3 weeks; if it's determined that I will remain on CPAP and not have to switch to Bi-Pap would the A-Flex type of machine be a better choice than the C-Flex machine? Thanks for the post.

I would choose the Auto with A-Flex. It has both A-Flex and C-Flex in it.

You can experiment with using A-Flex at all the A-Flex settings. If you don't like any of the A-Flex settings, then try it using with just C-flex. If you don't like any of the C-flex settings, you don't have to use either A-Flex or C-Flex.

You can even use it as a straight cpap machine, with or without C-flex turned on, if you wish.

So, it's quite a versatile machine...that Respironics REMstar Auto / A-Flex M series machine.
