Kidney Stones – Any interrelation to OSA/SDB?
I had lithotripsy to break up the stone, and two days later the problems began.
Evidently the lithotripsy didn't break up the stone into small enough particles, and a fairly large piece got caught in the ureter (sp.?)
I never had any idea that it was possible to experience that kind of pain.
I was begging for mercy and crying until they gave me a heavy duty shot for pain. I wound up having to have the fragments surgically removed by a tiny pair of pliars! LOL. And you'll never guess which opening the pliars had to be inserted into.
O.K. Vader
Now your scaring me ouch !!! and needingu the freind i mentioned said drink lots of lemonade, forgot to mention i have been drinking lemonade, he said citric acids will disolve the stones hope so.

Folks, I do feel for all of you who have experienced any kind of stones. I, too, well remember the absolute worst pain that I ever experienced in both major bouts with them.
I live daily with considerable pain from multiple OSA caused or fueled neuropathies, and have for decades. Even long before being finally diagnosed with severe OSA in 2001. My pain tolerance is generally considered very high. But we know how damaging that is to the body when you force generation of endorphins and adrenaline to counter pain and move on with life -- the effects slowly chew away at your overall health, and certain organs specifically.
Thankfully, all of my major stones were smooth and rounded and that the elasticity of my tubes was enough to let them eventually pass without lithotripsy or surgery. I mean, thus far. <sigh>
My best wishes to all of you, and prayers, for at the least... stabilization and continuity of your good health.

They have done extensive studies in Europe and found that if you drink two liters of lemonade per day, stones won't develop. It has shown to be far more effective than cranberry juice.
She also added that MOST people discontinue the lemonade regimen after a short while. We all have short memories I guess....
Wow...
I heard that several years ago and didn't remember it until finding those words I obviously overlooked when reading the posts earlier. I use quite a few lemons per week already... in tea, soda and cooking certain dishes. But I doubt that's even close to the good effects of quantities of lemonade.

Lemon has an alkalizing effect, I believe. Some believe that stones (kidney and gallbladder) can be caused or made worse by acidic diets. Google alkalizing & acidifying foods or diets, I dont have any particular links handy.
(Funny enough one web site i looked at classified cranberry as acidic... and I didn't know cranberry prevented stones; i just thought it was good for UTIs).
There are also liver and kidney flushes out there that can eliminate/dissolve stones without surgery (ok some will consider it quackery but whatever).
Apple and apple cider vinegar (ACV with mother) are also good for detoxing the liver/gallballder & supposedly soften liver/gallbladder stones. Parsley, celery seed, juice fasting, and just drinking more water are all good for cleansing the kidneys and/or dissolving kidney stones.
Disclaimer: I am NOT a doctor, I am NOT trained in this area, these are just suggestions I've read about along the way, as complementary to modern medicine... please do your own research first.

Undiagnosed OSA for at least 20+ years....
Diet is not heavy on milk products, and I avoid oxilates (spinach, rhubarb, colas, tea) like the plague. I drink eight oz. of cranberry juice a day. Still get them.
Eight bouts of kidney stones... one surgery, one lithotripsy, and passed the other six times. The pain is simply unbelievable. If you've never had one, count yourself lucky. A co-worker said to me (after my second one) that she had had both kids and kidney stones. She would rather have another kid w/o an epidural than have another kidney stone.
If giving birth is even remotely like passing a stone, its a miracle the species is still around.
I had not thought of a connection between stones and OSA, but this has me thinking now. Anyone know of any studies covering this?

Getting old doesn't make you 'forgetful'. Having too damn many things to remember makes you 'forgetful'.

I gave birth twice in my life and I will tell ya one thing..I would rather have another child than have a kidney stone, at least with child birth the pain is off and on, with a kidney stone the pain is constant To me it felt like a contraction that would not stop..I think women forget how painful child birth is, that is why the species is still aroundBookbear wrote:

Guess I am a hypochondriac went to see the Urologist today x-rayed me and could not find any stones, the topper was he pulled out the Dr's report from the hospital ER room and guess what !!!! the fool Dr. wrote down on his report that he could not find anything wrong. This was after he told me that he saw two stones in the right kidney on the cat scan aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggg !!!! The urologist was having trouble getting a copy of the cat scan from the hospital. Now I am worried since this fool Dr. put down on his report that he couldn't find anything wrong the insurance may not pay.

O.K. Sister
I am telling this urologist my story and he's laughing at me and telling me he's sorry for laughing but the sympyoms i described were classic kidney stone symptoms blah! blah!. Then he's telling me about how it amazes him to hear stories from large grown men who are reduced to crying babies by the pain of kidney stones very funny ha ha !!!! Did you have any problems with insurance paying ? I felt like an idiot but he said the stones probably passed out and i didn't know it.

If a doctor were to laugh at me about the pain I went through with my kidney stones I would be tempted to wish them on him/her..But Knowing how painful they are I wouldn't wish it on anyone..These things hurt like Hell

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
I can guarantee you that that particular urologist has never had a kidney stone.shippy wrote:Then he's telling me about how it amazes him to hear stories from large grown men who are reduced to crying babies by the pain of kidney stones very funny ha ha !!!!
You would think that in the business he/she is in, they would have a tad bit more understanding.
