CPAP Leak Compensation

Post by Slinky » Tue Oct 02, 2007 9:36 am

Its interesting how these doggone CPAP machines can compensate for leaks and high leaks. For instance, I haven't made any secret of the fact that I've had 3 lousy nights in a row due to gut issues.

For those not familiar w/Resmeds: The first pressure and leak rate is the 95th percentile. The second pressure and leak rate is the median pressure and the third pressure and leak rate is the highest pressure and leak rate reached that night. No settings were changed. Straight CPAP pressure set at 8 cms. EPR set at 0. Ramp turned off. Same nasal mask.

Pressure 8.2/8.0/8.2 - Leak .84/.44/1.14 - AHI 7.1 - AI 0.0 - HI 7.1 - Day 8:18 hrs - Time in Apnea 0.0%

Pressure 8.2/8.0/8.2 - Leak .66/.16/1.06 - AHI 7.1 - AI 0.7 - HI 6.4 - Day 4:05 hrs - Time in Apnea 0.2%

Pressure 8.2/8.0/9.6 - Leak .68/.16/.78 - AHI 4.3 - AI 0.1 - HI 4.2 - Day 9:09 hrs - Time in Apnea 0.0%

I just wish the d*mn thing could indicate how many hours are spent just LAYING there awake, too physically tired to get the bod moving and up. Its all well and good to indicate how many times we were up and down and when we're taking a nap vs in bed for the night but ....

Duh!!! Ozij, great idea. Now why didn't "I" think of that??? Thanks for that tip!! I really appreciate it.

See, that's something else we should tell the manufacturers we want - button we can push to specifically indicate when we are awake w/the CPAP on WAITING for sleep. Of course, no way to tell when we do finally GET to sleep. But still ... the darn things oughtta just read my mind! A "real-time" Ouiji board, don't you think?

MY PB420E lets me set a 5 min. long ramp - and I use it to indicate those times whem I'm really awake, and annoyed - or awake and wondering what woke me. I punch the ramp button, and in the morning use the details screen to see what happened around that ramp mark.
Great idea ozij. I might try that.
