1 week under my belt

Post by dorilda » Sun Sep 30, 2007 6:13 pm

Last night was day seven. I had problems waking up several times the first 3 nights and no air pressure and bottom of nose sored - adjusted Swift II and back with pressure so back to sleep. Monday I called DME and she returned my call within 2 hours and suggested I try the large size nasal pillow instead of the medium. I did Mon night and only woke up a few times and had air pressure so back to sleep. No sore nose in morning either. The first 2 morning husband woke me up at 7am. Last Sat after first night went for a ride and I didn't fall asleep in the car and haven't fallen asleep during days or evenings. My husband can't believe it since before I would fall asleep playing solatire on computer sitting in the chair with hand on mouse. I still feel tired during day but other things like overweight and diabetic could account for that. Since the 3rd day I usually wake up about 6-6:30 and take off mask but stay in bed til my time to get up. We are retired. I bought the Ayr nasal saline gel which this message board suggested and use that, I can't say that I am content with doing this new procedure but I know for my health it is necessary. I had to get used to needles and doing insulin 4 times a day so I know eventually I will be comfortable with this, ?hanks to everyone on this site. Your answers to questions are so good in making us informed. I have not read my machine yet. DME did not go over how to read anything so I have to learn about that so I can see how I am doing. My DME also said as long as I boil tap water to a rolling boil and let cool that would be fine for the humdifier so that is what I have been doing and I wash out hose and etc every morning. Thanks again.

Glad to hear you're getting some relief . I just passed day 10 on CPAP and couldn't be happier with the results. Isn't it wonderful to finally find a solution to those falling asleep times?

This forum has been such a blessing. There are so many knowledgeable (and ploeasant) people to help us new folks "connect the dots" in our understanding of this condition. I'm active on a handful of technical/computer type internet forums and have found that knowledgeable and pleasant don't often come in pairs.

I'm contemplating switching my mask out due to leaks that occur when I sleep on my side. Have you been fairly happy with the Swift after getting a different sized pillow? Swift is one of the options available from my DME for nasal pillow type interfaces.

Best of luck with it

The older I get, the better I was

BUM ADVICE from your DME supplier about boiled tap water!! Boiling does NOT remove the minerals, etc. that form deposits in your humidifier water tank. It can remove bacteria, etc. so would help to prevent any infections from unclean water ... but boiling won't do a thing to protect your humidifier water tank.
