My first cold with xPAP

Post by drummergirl410 » Sun Sep 30, 2007 1:25 pm

I was doing everything within my power to prevent it... but then it happened anyway. On Thursday afternoon I came home from work feeling like I was catching a cold. My nose was starting to show signs of it. I was worried about getting to sleep with the xPAP. My nose was stuffy, then runny. I managed to sleep pretty well though. I turned the humidifier down to 1. Woke up the next morning feeling pretty well, then it all hit me as the day wore on. By that afternoon I felt horrible! I stopped in to the doctor on my way home and was perscribed PV Tussin, one teaspoonful every six hours, and told to use Afrin to help with the nasal congestion. The nurse advised me not to take the Afrin more than directed to because it would cause a rebound conjestion. I was really afraid to take it at first. I did though. The Afrin really did the trick with getting the congestion cleared. I usually use Astelin but was out of it unfortunately. Once the air was blowing in, everything was good. I slept well both nights. Today I still have the nasal symptoms but things are improving. I've finally made it a habit of checking my numbers in the mornings and those have been better than usual even with the cold.

I have definitely dscided though that I will get a full face mask when I am up for a new one. I love my Activa foe when everything's OK and all I really need to replace is the cushion, so I will ask for that and then get the FF mask when I can. I've narrowed it down to the Quattro or the UMFF. I want to stay within the Resmed line because of the mask selection feature on my Resmed machine.

I was really dreading it, but getting through this first cold hasn't been as bad as I thought.
