95 % pressure

Does it run lower than your titrated pressure?

Who knows? Maybe.....maybe not.

Depends on if they got the titration right.

I was titrated at 16 with a few remaining events and my sleep doctor prescribed a pressure of 18. Last year with one of my Autos (and a pressure range of 10 - 15), I only hit 15 for 1 1/2 min. and my 90% varied between 11 and 14.
The 90 or 95% pressure means you spent that percentage of the night AT or BELOW that pressure. To me, it has a somewhat nebulous meaning.....because it WILL change from night to night......sort of like nailing Jell-O to a wall.

My 95 % pressure has been pretty steady between 12 and 13.4 for the last nine months, but I certainly don't get rid of all the AHIs at a cpap of 13.

Like, what AHI numbers is it reporting?

I've seen lots of forum members report that they needed to go higher than their titration number......sometimes LOTS higher.

Is 12 - 15 what you still have your machine set for? (your profile)
Could be you need to bump up the bottom pressure a notch or two.

The 95th percentile figure indicates the pressure at which you spent 95% of the night AT OR BELOW.

Your set pressure's average can be reduced by the Ramp feature and by the EPR feature if used. In addition, most of these newer CPAPs are very good at compensating for a high leak rate and so for some of the night can actually provide MORE than your set pressure.

At a set pressure of 8 cms, with EPR set at 3, Ramp turned off and a bad night for mask leaks I've seen my Resmed S8 Elite's 95th percentile of pressure be 7.6, the median pressure be 7.4 and the highest pressure achieved be 10.0.

My AHI was running around 4-6.0 with the 12-15 pressure with the AI being in the 1-2 range. I started sleeping with a soccer ball inside the back of my t-shirt to stay off my back. I lowered the pressure to 8-13 and the AHI dropped in the 3-4 range with AI running .3 to .8. The numbers were good and the stomach air was improved with the lower numbers but Unfortunately I didn't seem very rested and my back and shoulder were taking a beating for not being able to move off one side all night. I pulled the soccer ball out which allows me to sleep some of the night on my back which causes my numbers to go up. Last night I used cpap starting at 10 for 45 minutes and then going to 13. My numbers were the highest they have been in months....AHI 9 and AI 1.8. I think it's pretty clear I need 3-5 points higher pressure when I am on my back versus on my side. I think it's also clear my ideal titration point is probably about 3-4 points above my 95% pressure.

That may well be the case. You may well be better off just running in CPAP mode with EPR, rather than using APAP mode.

Cheers,

Bill
