BiPAP Synchrony + Encore Pro+ Serial cable
BiPAP Synchrony + Encore Pro+ Serial cable
Hello,
Does anyone know what I have to do to get the data off of BiPAP Synchrony? I have a BiPAP Synchrony without a modelm, but have a serial port.
I am trying to do a Direct Device Connection from Encore Pro to the BiPAP Synchrony. However, I don't know what sort of serial port settings I need (e.g., baud rate, data bits, etc.). Also, do I need to change settings on the BiPAP in order for it to communicate through the serial port? Do I need to have it running in order to get data?
Thanks in adavance for you help!
Juri

I'm guessing two options......straight-through or null modem.
Probably 9600, N, 8, 1
Are there any settings in the machine for that?
I looked on Respironics' website but other than the user manual, couldn't find any specifics as far as settings for machine or computer.
Look in the Encore Pro help files and see if there's anything in there.

That is very little information to go on.shary wrote:I've bipap synchrony and encore pro but its been a month or so I am trying to figure out how can I download data from synchrony to computer. I am totally blind. Plz help me download data to computer thru enocre pro.
First of all, the "Synchrony" model name was used on various machine generations/styles from around 2000 - 2011.
Which one do you have?
Does it have the credit-card-sized data card? (that would require a card reader)
If it has the credit-card-sized data card, do you have a DT3500 card reader? That's the specific card reader to download the previously-mentioned data card.
Do you have a version of Encore Pro? Which one?
What computer operating system do you have? Some older versions of Encore Pro won't work with newer computer operating systems and/or would require different drivers for the card readers.
And, finally, if you're totally blind, how do you read this forum?

Re: BiPAP Synchrony + Encore Pro+ Serial cable
I mean I have a Bipap Synchrony machine and encore pro software that i download from a torrent. I live in Pakistan and we dont have respironics support in Pakistan. I somehow managed to get this used machine which is an old model. Now i want to connect it to Encore Pro 2.2 thru serial cable. Synchrony doesn't have smart card in it. Instead it have a 9 pin communication port.
I've installed software on my computer but dont know how to connect it to encore pro and download data from machine to computer.

Re: BiPAP Synchrony + Encore Pro+ Serial cable
I am not sure that the newer versions of Pro will support the Synchrony.
I have a slightly newer version than you have but I can't find a list of which machines are supported.
Have you tried just clicking on the "download from device" prompt? If you have and that doesn't work then I don't know how to tell Encore to use the serial cables instead of looking for the Smart Card.
You might need an older Pro version.

Download Data from a Synchrony device
Encore Pro is compatible with BiPAP Synchrony devices containing software version 1.4 or greater. For Synchrony devices without a SmartCard, you can connect the device directly to your computer. If the Synchrony device has an internal modem, you can download the data remotely via a telephone line. For Synchrony devices with a SmartCard, refer to Download Data from a SmartCard.
To download the data directly from the Synchrony device:
A Respironics communications cable is required to use this feature.
The therapy device's power cord must be plugged in to extract the patient data. Use only the Respironics communications cables. Do not substitute other cables.
Connect the therapy device to a COM (serial) port on your computer. From the Encore Pro homepage, click on Preferences and select System Settings. In the Direct Device Connection window, select the COM (serial) port that the therapy device is connected to (COM1 - COM4).
If the data is being downloaded into an existing patient record, open the patient's record. From the Encore Pro homepage, double-click on the Patient's Name or right-click on the Patient's Name and select Open Patient Homepage.
If a record does not exist for this patient, create a new patient record. From the Encore Pro homepage, click Add New Patient from the list of Common Tasks. Complete the entries and click on OK. Open the patient record. From the Encore Pro homepage, double-click on the Patient's Name or right-click on the Patient's Name and select Open Patient Homepage.
Click on Download Data from the list of Interactions and select Direct Device Connection.
Complete the selections using the drop down lists and click OK.
A Compliance Download Interaction will appear in the patient's Interaction List. To view/print the download information, right-click on the interaction and select your option.
To download the data using the Synchrony modem:
Two modems are required for downloading via a modem. The Modem Manager must be installed, configured, and running on your computer to receive data from the Synchrony device via modem.
The patient's ID number and the phone number of the computer modem line must be entered into the Synchrony device before downloading. Follow the directions in the Synchrony Provider Manual.
In addition to the Synchrony modem, you must have either an internal or external modem connected to your computer. If you need to set up the modem, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Once you have the modem connected, or if your computer has an internal modem, refer to the Windows control panel for modem identification (Phone/Modem>Modem).
Therapy Device Connections
If the therapy device has a serial connector or a SmartCard connector, you can download data directly into your computer.
Serial Connector
Connect a Respironics Communications Cable to the serial ports on the therapy device and your computer.
SmartCard Connector
If the therapy device has a SmartCard, you can remove the card and use a SmartCard Reader / Writer to download the data.
Installing the Modem Manager
The Modem Manager handles incoming calls from the SleepLink modem. In order for your computer’s modem to receive calls from the SleepLink modem, the Modem Manager must be running. The Modem Manager will not automatically install when you install Encore Pro software. You must select it in the Encore Pro installation screen.
Check to see if the Modem Manager has been installed on your computer:
The Modem Manager icon will appear most often at the bottom of your computer screen (in the icon tray) when it is installed and running.
If the icon is not there, select Start>Programs>Respironics>Encore Pro>Modem Manager. If the icon still does not appear, re-install the Encore Pro software, making sure to select Install Modem Manager in the installation screen.
Set up the Modem Manager
a. Right-click on the Modem Manager icon.
b. Select Configure Serial Ports. The Configure Serial Ports window will appear.
c. From the drop down list, select the modem that will be used to answer incoming calls (your computer’s modem).
NOTE: If your modem is not included in this list, select Phone/Modem>Modem from the Control Panel. Click on the Add button and follow the screen instructions.
You may have to exit and restart the Modem Manager before the modem’s name appears. Right click on the Modem Manager icon and select Exit. Select Start>Programs>Respironics>Encore Pro>Modem Manager. Select Configure Serial Ports.
d. Select the Enable Modem to answer incoming calls box. You can also use this box to enable and disable the Modem Manager for answering incoming calls.
e. Click on OK to complete the Modem Manager setup.
IMPORTANT! If your computer has only one serial port (COM), and you are using an external modem, always turn the Modem Manager off before disconnecting any cables from the PC. Right-click on the Modem Manager icon and select Exit. You can restart the Modem Manager by selecting Start>Programs>Respironics>Encore Pro>Modem Manager.
IMPORTANT! The Modem Manager must be running to receive calls from a therapy device. The Modem Manager runs independently of Encore Pro. It is not necessary for Encore Pro to be running to receive calls from a therapy device.

That said, it does seem to require fine-tuning SQL with a hammer.
Re: BiPAP Synchrony + Encore Pro+ Serial cable
Thank yoy all for your kind help and knowledge sharing. It has this data downloading option fron device using serial cable. Encore 2.2 doesn't support synchrony.
When I click on "download data from device" it start to develop device connectionand after a while it says "cannot oppen serial port. Another program may be using it."
Also plz share your knowledge about its cable. Is is fine if I use ordinary serial purchased from computer store or it won't wok except for respironics provided cable.

Re: BiPAP Synchrony + Encore Pro+ Serial cable
So are you using 1.8?
Re: BiPAP Synchrony + Encore Pro+ Serial cable
Morbius I think he is trying to use a torrent copy of Pro 2.2 that he found on the web.
Edit: I thought it was 2.2 but looks like it is 1.8.
I can't use a sledge hammer on my Win 7 SQL , I don't think , without messing up my current version of Pro and that really wouldn't help the OP anyway.
If I can find that disc maybe I can figure out a way to put it in dropbox for sharing that wouldn't break the setup/install sequence...if it is 1.8 which I think it might be. I will look for it today and see if I can get it done.
