question for anyone using the remstar pro 2

Post by sharon1965 » Thu Sep 27, 2007 7:02 pm

today while the rt was setting up my new machine, she assumed i didn't want the mask off alert activated...i told her i do, since i still sometimes wake up to find the interface laying on the pillow beside me...so she set it up, but then it wouldn't beep...she said it was because i wasn't using a respironics interface

i use the aura/twilightnp/whateverit'scalled...anyone know if this is the problem?

thanks

sharon

Won't have anything to do with whether it beeps. ResMed is the only one that only need their mask to work correctly. Only thing I can think of is to turn it off and on again make the setting recycle. The beep is real soft, with my hard of hearing I have to be laying on the machine to hear it.

Nope! It doesn't know what brand or style of mask is on the other end of the hose.
I also have a Pro 2, but I shut that feature off in the very beginning. I don't want anything else disturbing my sleep. On a couple of occasions, about 10 minutes into a night's sleep, my machine has started beeping because of the smartcard (gotta take it out and re-insert it) and I don't like waking up with things beeping. It's too much like my alarm going off ......but then that happens at the END of a night's sleep.....not at the beginning.....when I'm falling into a deeeeep sleep.

Nope! It doesn't know what brand or style of mask is on the other end of the hose.
this is what i thought, but i tried it again, first with the comfortlite 2 (respironics) and it started beeping after about 35 seconds...then i tried my aura...nothing, even after a full minute...then i tried the breeze (puritan bennett) and again, it started beeping...back to the aura...NOTHING...i even tried the hose with nothing attached and sure enough, it started beeping...i find this very odd...

i know many people don't use this feature, but i really thought it would be helpful since like i said, i still find my mask on the pillow beside me sometimes and have no idea how long it's been off my face...i suppose the obvious answer would be "use one of the other two"...but there's a reason i keep going back to the aura no matter what others i try

anyone else care to weigh in?
thanks
sharon

I think its quite evident the Aura doesn't have enough 'built-in' leak rate to activate the OFF alarm. In other words it thinks its still on your face. It takes NO RESISTANCE on the end of the hose to cause the alarm to activate. Happy sleeping! jim

You know, I turned that feature on too, but it wouldn't beep.

How long did it take? Maybe I didn't wait long enough.

with the CL2 and the breeze i think it was around 35 seconds...but definitely less than a minute

Ah, thanks. I didn't wait long enough. Luckily I haven't had the mask or hose come off since I got the Pro.

all depends on how you have things set, but it should:

1. Mask Alert Off: Machine encounters a Large Leak, it will rev up to compensate for said leak. Machine will attempt this for 45 seconds where it will shut off.

2. Mask Alert On: Machine encounters a Large Leak, it will rev up to compensate for said leak. After 45 seconds machine will begin sounding alarm and flashing LED's.

The Auto will function similarly, but it will begin dropping pressure by 2 cm to eliminate the leak.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
