6 week update

Post by josh » Sat Sep 22, 2007 2:52 pm

Hi all...

I'm doing very well. Heading back to work on Monday, and I am not looking forward to that (mainly because I need about 10 hours of sleep a night, and I am getting up at 8am...I have to get up at 5:30 for work).

I still have no bags under my eyes, which is very signficant, as I had bags under my eyes pre-surgery.

I can open up my mouth wide enough to just barely fit a grilled cheese, on that note I can also fit a hamburger from McD's.

As for pain...all of my pain now is from my braces, my ortho put me back in elastics which is wreaking havoc on my teeth, probably more so from the surgery. However, that is my only pain, but its bad enough to warrant using Vicodin. And I think the vicodin is making me extremely itchy.

I am still pretty weak, which is another reason why I am nervous about going back to work...but then again it should give my wife a break.

And I still cannot feel my chin or my lower lip, but I am doing better because I pretty much stopped drooling.

I can't wait to get a sleep study, but I have to wait a while per the doctor to let swelling go down.

I can safely say I was not as uncomfortable as I was when I had my UPPP. Word of caution though...if you are planning on pursuing this surgery (MMA/GA), then I would advise planning on being out of work for 4-6 weeks, and to have a loved one available to help out. My wife has earned her keep .

Would I do it again? Yes...but I can't lol. I feel less tired than ever before, I feel like I can drive without falling asleep, and I think the 10 hours a night sleeping is from the anesthesia. I have no headaches, I yawn less, and I feel like I can read more. Not to mention I think my new chin is pretty neat looking.

Cheers,
Josh

Josh - the tingling on the chin may persist a while. I had lower jaw advancement when I was in high school - 1990 to be exact - and while I have feeling in my chin it is numb and tingly still. I hope I'm not worrying you - just thought I'd let you know it can leave your chin's feeling a bit "off". If I remember right moving the jaw forward stretches the nerves running inside it.

Hope all keeps going well! Sounds like you're happy with the results!

Josh,
Thanks for keeping us updated. Hope work comes easier for you than it did before your surgery. I too am interested in hearing how your followup sleep study turns out. Glad to hear things are already better for you. Onward and upward!
Kathy
