1st night with mask

Post by dorilda » Sat Sep 22, 2007 9:25 am

Got equipment yesterday -went to a different DME in Grand Rapids instead of here in town, Diane knowledgable in going over details. Went to bed at 11pm-my husband had equipment ready. Put on Swift II nasal pillow gear. Had Respironics M Auto on with Ramp set at 6 and time 45 min to get up to 20/15. It did take me a long time to fall asleep. Normally I am asleep within minutes. Machine was quiet all I could hear was my breathing in and out, in and out. Thunderstorm 2:30am woke up and being able to open my mouth so that meant air pressure not going through nose. Wriggled my mask around and then air pressure coming in again so that is mainly what happened during the rest of the night. I think the hose was pulling it just enough to do it. I sleep mainly on my back and hardly moved the whole time so was very stiff in morning. My husband said he reached over a few times because he couldn't hear me. I did keep mask on all night and finally woke up at 7:15 am which is my usual time to get up. I have the bi-flex part which is set on 2 and I think I will try that tonight instead of the ramp. The heated humdifier seems to work ok. I didn't get dry throat. This pretty much describes my first night. I was very nervous about starting this procedure and really dreaded getting the equipment. I have OSA and had 106 times of not breathing during my first sleep test and also felt claustrophobic with the nose mask on at the time. Any suggestions on my problems will appreciate.

Great start

That sounds like an awesome first night. You even had to deal with a thunderstorm and still were able to get back to sleep with the interface still in place. That is much better than some people experience.
I am sure you will have great results and will soon be reaping the benefits of being treated.

Congratulations on the great start. I wish you many more great all nighters to come.

Karen
