Too tired to rant...

Post by FuzzyGuest » Fri Sep 21, 2007 7:23 am

...but I will. The last two nights have been terrible. I got some Polident strips and tried the CL2 again night before last. Seemed to seal pretty good, although I probably didn't do it right (I looked for instructions here but couldn't find any...I'm sure they're here somewhere.) I was kind of freaked out with my mouth glued shut, but fell asleep in about 45 minutes. It held for about an hour and a half...woke up and tried to fix it, then continued to wake every 10 minutes or so all night...never awake enough to actually do anything about it. I was exhausted all day yesterday. Thank goodness for my daily lunchtime nap!

Here's where the rant starts. I gave up on the Hybrid...it's just too small for my face. I took it back yesterday (had to wait until Thursday, as that's the only day the RT is at my DME.) Here's the jist:

"I'd like to return this Hybrid...it won't work for me."
"You know I'm stuck with it...I can't return it to the company."
"I know, and I'm sorry, but I simply can't use it."
"What do you want?"
"Do you have the Quattro?"
(no response, disappears into the back, comes back and hands it to me)
"Does this come in different sizes?"
"That's a large. Try it on." (I struggle, and get it on, trying to adjust it)
"Well, maybe this'll work..."
"It has a dial."

And that was the extent of my training on how to fit this mask. I was never able to get a satisfactory seal even lying flat on my back unless I tightened the straps down to the "head in a vise" level. I wore it all night, woke up dozens of times...it leaked everywhere. I've decided that my facial hair has nothing to do with it...FF masks just do not fit my face. Or maybe this one is the wrong size...what the hell do I know?

I'm off work today, got a million things to do and I just want to sleep. I'm going to stop by another branch of my DME (on the off chance there'll be an RT there) and ask if this mask fits. I'm extremely close to saying "Screw it!" We'll see if she changes that.

I just want to go back to sleep!

Hello Fuzzy guest, You really have to put your foot down at your DME. Sometimes you have to be a little "forceful" towards them, afterall it effects your life. You have a problem with the fitting of the mask and they WILL help you until it is resolved, it's their job. If they don't help you then, I would seek out a different DME (if available). But please don't give up on the pap treatment it could mess up your life. You just need to find people that are willing to work with you.
Hope that helps.
Rich
