Intro from Gumby
Intro from Gumby
Hi all, new user here.
Hx brain aneurysm (2003), Hi B/P, Hi cholesterol, etc.
Started CPAP Jan 2007 w/Remstar Plus @17cm w/humidifier. Had an auto M series loaner, right away improved the way I felt. Finally, got a script for an auto and I am looking forward to monitoring my own sleep. Ended up w/Remstar auto w/C-Flex & smart card.
Did some research here and found some very helpful old posts regarding software and card readers, etc. (thankfully). I ordered the DT3500 smart card reader from HK @2factor.com. $24 plus $7.80 shipping.
Now I am looking for software and just so I understand what to look for - Do you absolutely need the Encore software even if you get the MyEncore software? Can you read anything from the card w/MyEncore?
Thanks for any input on getting off on the right foot.

hey welcome aboard, 2-time stroker here myself, man you are lucky to be around. Most people don't survive that type, sure glad mine were ischemic.
Controlling that hypertension is a must. What are you taking to improve the health of your arteries? Lots of vitamin-C, D & E and dark green veggies I hope.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Welcome to the forum!
If you have the "Classic"/"Legacy"/"Tank"/"Pre-M Series" Auto, as is shown is your profile, almost ANY version of Encore Pro, MyEncore and Encore Pro Analyzer will work with your machine. I'm still using my original EP v. 1.4.99 with MyEncore 1.03 on one computer and EP 1.6i and MyEncore 1.5B7 on another computer......and I have 3 of those Legacy model PAP machines.
Encore Pro IS available, if you know where to look......
The "word" is.....that sometime in October, Respironics is releasing a new "Encore Viewer" program to fill the need for a user (hopefully "friendly") version of the program. Hopefully, it'll be relatively affordable. My thought has always been that it should have been created years ago and included with the machines.

No doubt, I am lucky. Must be my work here is not yet done...Snoredog wrote:hey welcome aboard, 2-time stroker here myself, man you are lucky to be around. Most people don't survive that type, sure glad mine were ischemic.
I am trying to reduce the Gumby pic so I can use it as an Avatar, so far no luck. Give me time ;_)
Thanks everyone for the tips on the software. All good things in time. Yes, it is the older tank type auto w/C-flex.
Right now I am just happy to have an auto, well and to be alive to use it.
Funny story, when I got sick, I had no insurance. And of course rehab took a looong time. When my gf finally got me on her insurance, I had to choose a primary care doctor.
Which means I had to get a referral (from a doc who never saw me) to go see the doc who already did the work. No wonder why insurance cost sooo much!!
This doc told me no less than 5 times during each visit, how lucky I was. So one time I just had to ask him (I knew the answer but) "Doc, if I am sooo lucky how come I never hit the Powerball?"
Of course the answer is......
If you don't have your health, nothing else really matters.
ALL the money in the world can't/won't change that.

Gumby, you seem to be off to a swell start.
You know where to come if you have a question!
Welcome, and I hope to see a lot of you--without any major problems, of course!

Gumby's Anniversary
Jan 30, 2007
Marks many 1sts in my life -
My 1st time trying to sleep with a CPAP unit.
Mailed to me by Apria - My 1st encounter w/Apria.
I had NO idea what I was in for. Do they have T-shirts for that - "I survived CPAP w/Apria"?
Ok so I could only remember 2. It was the beginning of a lifestyle change. I hadn't yet found my way here or met many of these wonderful people. Not until much later in this journey.
So what other milestones for my 1st year?
Already mentioned - found this group of wonderful people who have a wonderful sense of humor.
Got rid of my Remstar Plus.
My 1st exposure to M series was a positive one - it had A-flex but it was a loaner.
Fired Apria.
Fired Gaylord.
Started w/VA - wow that is another ride there.
Enter Nutmeg or Rotech Healthcare? Is this a division of Apria?
Met 4 'sleep docs' in 2 weeks (3 were "In Training" - it seems) but that would be another thread.
Had my 3rd sleep study done.
Still waiting for my 'sleep doc' to figure out that I can't exhale against high pressures above 16 and need a bipap. My 1st PSG documented that events increase at pressures above 16. Fully documented that I can't tolerate Straight CPAP @ 17 but the 'sleep doc' wants to change me from an auto @ 12-20 to CPAP @ 18.
But on the positive side I finally got a F&P HC 150 & 10 ft. hose. Yeeehaaw.
Now I can go thru the nite w/o having to add more water plus move that noisy M series away from me.
But in any case, I survived.
Thank You EVERYONE,
GumbyCT

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?
