getting new mask need some advice

Post by Guest » Fri Sep 14, 2007 1:02 pm

my dme is bringing me a few masks to choose from monday ,among what they are bringing is an opus ,an optilife and i asked to see a hybrid which she told me they dont carry but instead are bringing the liberty.when i asked why not the hybrid she told me that they had made the decision to carry the one over the other based on they are both designed by the same person and really had few diferences between the 2 of them with the liberty being the better of the 2. i am using a swift 2 right now with a chinstrap but really want to get away from the chinstrap and cant do the taping ,freaks me out when i wake up in the middle of the night and cant open my mouth. is the liberty going to be ok or should i just try out one of the other masks she brings out.i really dont want something thats going to be a problem to use or is going to break on me.
this will be my second round with a full face mask, i tried a full face mask when i first started my therapy and and couldnt get used to it ,the mask felt like it was lifting off my face and i got countless airleaks around the bridge of my nose.so im hoping i have better luck this time around

I can't speak about anything but the optilife and with it you will still need a chin strap if you are a mouth breather.
As far as the liberty goes I have not heard that it is better than the hybrid in fact I heard otherwise. Hopefully someone who has tried both can tell you the difference.

I started with the Optilife and basically like the pillows but could not tolerate the permanent hose down supply tubing. Switched to the Swift II and like it better because I can position the hose overhead.

I tried the Hybrid and could not solve the leak problems. I may try the Liberty the next time I am able to get an insurance paid mask.

this is my insurance paid mask so i figure that i may as well get the big dollar stuff on their dime.i dont mind paying for replacement parts on my own or paying for the not so expensive masks out of my own pocket but 200.00 is a tough nut to swallow just be cause i want to try something different

have been using the liberty for over a week now and last night i finally seemed to get it to where there were no leaks didnt matter whether on my side or my back and its not so tight that it hurts ,but still stays in place.i think im going to do very well with it !! looking forward to putting it back on tonight
