Hmmm, If it looks like a duck & quacks like a duck ....

- must say it looks like a classic money making scheme - the price seems pretty high.

It make for interesting reading. There is apparently a large study on the effects of EDTA being done by the NIH that will be completed in 2008. But that is on the intra-veinous form, not the oral. So the jury may still be out on the theory of if it works. Then there's the question of it it works orally. Either way, those that are selling this stuff will probably make money on it.

Look at all the the scare tactics in the advertisement. All of the talk about clogged arteries and heartattacks. Someone that is very desperate will gladly pay the money.

I looked up ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. Zep tile cleaner, Clairol Natural Instincts haircoloring, Fourpaws Pet Dental Care Kit, Suave Liquid Hand Soap, and Efferdent Denture Cleanser all contain ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. Why wouldn't you want to ingest this stuff?

Anytime a product is portrayed with scare tactics and "but wait, here is your $$$$ list of free items" it makes me uncomfortable.

where does vinegar come into play here?

As for EDTA? been using it a couple years now from Wonder labs, I also take 500mg of NIACIN daily, if you can stand the hair on the back of your neck standing up after taking it from all the flushing, my Cardiologist used to have me on 2000mg per day of prescription NIASPAN to bring up HDL levels, I started with 500mg tabs, my HDL level drops, he doubles the dose it drops to 28, he doubles that dose it drops to 26, the goal was to get to >31 and lower risk of stroke. Of course the Cardiologist had no idea as to cause of my stroke. My mom just turned 90, she only has about 15% of her heart function left after a dozen heart attacks over the past 30 years, she has never smoked or drank a day in her life. She still takes niacin daily. I don't even want to live that long.

Niacin (I use OTC niacin) supposedly makes the artery walls slippery so the bad cholesterol doesn't stick and it is carried out of the blood stream. At one time, NIASPAN.com (prescription timed-release niacin maker) touted NIASPAN as the only drug that promoted arterial plaque reduction, I think the FDA made them remove that claim.

I think the best approach is to lower levels of inflammation then all that cholesterol in the blood stream isn't needed and lowers on its own. If you take plant phenols that coat the intestines less will be absorbed from foods, but hey I'm going to continue to eat my pasta no matter what it does to cholesterol.

vinegar

In my pharmacy days, I had several people extoll the curative powers of vinegar.

If a person buys into any claim and tries it and they think they are getting better, then by all means let them do so.

Same for the miracle lherbs and alternative meds and homeopathic remidies.

The placebo effect is very powerful.
When this is combined with a lack of critical thinking, lots of miracles happen.

But what do I know?

- thought for the day:

Doing a good job at this place is kinda like wetting your pants in a dark suit.
It gives you a warm feeling, but nobody notices.

It didn't help the ad's credibility at all when I recognized the model in one of the photos of "users" from a stock photo I purchased years ago for a brochure design. You can buy the same photo from Getty Images. I guess it doesn't actually say these are photos of the endorsers, but....

maybe you guys should just consider magnesium instead (grin):

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/magnesium.asp

You don't want to take anything that comes from a poorly designed website, we can only take supplements that come from Glaxo-Smith-Kline or Pfizer or other pharmaceutical companies like the makers of Vioxx.

I was only interested in reading this because their website states:
EDTA, first synthesized in Germany in 1935, is a simple amino acid, very similar in composition to common household vinegar.

In medical studies, EDTA has been shown to be three times safer.
