Res Med Recall?

Post by Lee Lee » Fri Sep 07, 2007 4:24 pm

I had heard about a Res Med recall of my machine, so I went online and looked at the serial numbers affected. Mine wasn't on the list. (there's a short somewhere in some of these machines.)
So, I was surprised by the letter I got today, saying they thought I had a defective machine.
I called the 800 number and , yes, mine is in the recall.
I guess I'm glad I'm getting a new machine, but they said it would be SIX WEEKS before they could get someone to my home to replace it. Does that seem a bit long?
Also, I just wonder if it IS a new machine, and not a used one.
Aside from my musings, just a note to ResMed users, you might want to check on your serial number f you haven't gotten a letter.

Six weeks is probably not a long time considering what they probably have to do. They have to manufacture the replacements and distribute them. There is also the matter of arranging delivery to your home. Whether it is too long of a period of time depends a lot on the reason for the recall. There wouldn't much of a big hurry if the water tank could leak; if a number of them have burst into flames, six weeks may be considered to be too long.

Only 7 out of some 30,000 units malfunctioned, no injuries or serious damages resulted. Those using supplemental oxygen were the first to have their units replaced. DME suppliers were given the option of handling the replacements themselves or having a professional Recall company handle the replacements. In our area, at least, that Recall company was SteriCycle. As BeardedOne stated, given the magnitude of the VOLUNTARY Recall six weeks is not an unreasonable time frame. You are given an entirely new xPAP machine set to your scripted pressure(s), EPR, Ramp, etc. All you need do is look at the bottom of the replacement xPAP for the serial number. The first four numbers are the year of manufacture and the next four numbers the month and day of manufacture.

I don't think they can legally send you a used machine, so my guess is that you will get a new one.

Its easy enough to check. Press the Left and Right buttons and hold them for 3-4 seconds. The Efficacy Data menu will pop up in the LED screen. Press the Down button. The Usage Data menu will pop up. Press the Left button to Enter. Press the Down button. If the machine has been used at all it will have the number of hours used, number of nights used more than 4 hours and number of days since it was first used.

I also checked the recall numbers. My machine wasn't one of them. I haven't recieved or heard anything from ResMed or my DME. (gulp) Hoping I'm in the clear...
