The titration sleep study went well

Post by jaybee72 » Tue Sep 04, 2007 6:42 am

I did the titration sleep study last night after having the initial sleep study the previous monday night. I was expecting it to be difficult to get to sleep with the machine, but it really wasn't. I'd guess I was asleep within 15 minutes, but not sure. I woke up briefly a couple of times throughout the night, but quickly went back to sleep. I never noticed any hissing or leakage, and the technician said the leakage numbers were great all night.

The cpap was labelled as a Devilbiss bilevel cpap and the mask was a nose only respironics. It struck me a little funny to see the same name on the machine as on some industrial air compressors and paint sprayers, but I guess they know how to pump air...

I left the first sleep study at about 5:30am totally exhausted, went home, and immediately slept another 4 hours before going to work late (self employed). The rest of that day I was still tired. I cut my sleep very short the night before last to make sure I was tired for the titration, and showed up there ready to go to sleep. Now, I'm sure some of it is a plecebo effect from listening to all of you on here saying how great you feel after sleeping with a cpap, but I cannot believe the difference I felt when the tech woke me up this morning. I did not go back to sleep when I got home, and I have not been tired at all this morning. It was also amazing to wake up without a dry throat and mouth for the first time I can remember.

I did have one odd occurence just as I first went to sleep. I woke up abruptly to a burning sensation in the back of my tongue that I'd say felt like a muscle spasm. It took a couple of minutes for it to go away and I immediately went back to sleep, and it didn't happen again all night. I guess just something to do with getting used to it. I often have muscle spasms under my chin when I yawn, and it felt similar to that but in a slightly different location.

The tech of course wouldn't tell me much in the way of numbers but said it went great. She did say the leakage numbers were very low, and that the cpap was highly effective. The last study only took 24 hours to get the results, so maybe I'll be talking to the doctor tomorrow... And then the dme and insurance fun begins...

Yeah for you. Eastside is great. Did you have the red headed sleep tech?
Keep us posted.

Humm - you know, it didn't strike me as being red hair, more blonde. There were 2 techs there the first night and I'm not sure how many people doing studies. Last night there were only 2 of us doing studies and one tech. I had the same tech both times, and never really saw the other tech other than a glance as I got there. The one I had was really nice, and took her time explaining everything.

Congratulations on having a good experience! And I highly doubt it was a placebo effect. I felt better the night of my tiration and I hadn't found this board yet. It was the first night of normalish sleep I had in ... I can't say how long! I love sleeping now, whereas before I hated it. It sounds like you will be finding out your numbers and getting on the hose pretty quickly. Again, congrats and welcome!

Well, I am truly amazed now since the late afternoon break time is usually when I get really sleepy... And I'm not.... And been up since 5:00 instead of a more usual 7:00... Very cool!

DeVilbiss cpap are by Sunrise Medical. If you look for the paint spray/pump people you'll draw a blank. Just for your info. Happy sleeping!

So it actually is a different company? I figured they just specialized on all types of air moving equipment...

Well, it is now 11:00pm; 18hrs since the sleep tech woke me up, and still wide awake... Very unusual for me!
