Hi all..... I get an odd sound coming from my Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask. It sounds like a click or very light thump. Can it be a valve opening and closing or some sort of safety feature? It's deffinately there but for the
"life of me" (literally speaking) I can't figure out what it is. I think it happens on inhalation. Thanks
Odd Sound from mask
Hello Stephen:
I too, am a user of the Ultra-Mirage full face mask. I may have heard the same thing you did one particular night- it was a very quiet "plastic" tick sound or something that happened when the inhale/exhale cycle started or ended. The only place I could theorize this comes from is either of the two silicone components: the saftey valve or the face cushion. In my case the sound simply subsided and went away on it's own after a few minutes. Some things you could try to possibly reduce or eliminate the sound would be 1) turn the CPAP off, let it wind down to where the safety valve opens, then turn it back on again. The simple flexing of the safety valve back and forth (if it is the culprit) may seat it differently and make the clicks go away. 2)Disassemble the mask components and wash them, as Res-Med instructs on their website for the weekly cleaning. Again the manipulation of the silicone components, as one manipulates a sticky door hinge, might cause whatever is "clicking" to become unstuck and work normally again.
Just some suggestions for your consideration. Comparing your experience to my own notes again, I found that it was only one isolated incident in my case. Now that I think of it, it may have occurred on a night when I took my humidifier out of the circuit since the outdoor relative humidity has been higher in my part of the country recently. Changing the amount of moisture in the airstream may have something to do with it, also.
Good luck! Breathe well...

Odd Sound
Thanks Windflyer. It certainly sounded like some kind of valve opening and closing. I'll check it out again. It was kind of annoying.
By the way..... Do you fly ultralights or hang glide? Just curious. I'm into flying trikes and powered parachutes. Your WindFlyer name just caught my eye.
