Hybrid mask
Hybrid mask
Hi, all!
I've been on BiPAP therapy for all of 3 weeks now, so I'm a newbie. I started out with a Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit 432 full face mask. But it started irritating the bridge of my nose, to the point where I now have a small area where skin is removed.
I switched to the Hybrid mask with nasal pillows. After two nights using it, I'm optimistic, but I wanted to ask those of you who use it or have tried it have made out with it.
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Hybrid mask
I have’t tried Hydprid yet. It is perhaps second one on “waiting line” to try for me. Currently I am testing Mirage Activa. But I did try 432 with idetical result to yours.
You can read about my mask’s expirience here

One more suggestion – give each mask your are trying at least one week before making final conclusion. However if something like in case with 432 has happened it is good time to stop and start trying different mask.

The Hybrid Mask: Be sure you get Revision-C of the mask and headgear combination.
Revision-C of the mask has smaller design vent holes, lowering the passive exhalation vent LPM greatly, while maintaining a safe range. The original mask design had vent holes too large to use effectively with A-FLEX, EPR and some other machine modes. In other words, the original shell design allowed too much passive venting of air at every PAP pressure setting, which was making the therapy less effective with certain machines and settings.
Revision-B was apparently was only a change and betterment of the headgear.
Be sure to get Revision-C. But if they send you a Revision-B, you can call Innomed, toll-free, and ask for a Revision-C shell to be sent to you free of charge. Mine should arrive today. PM me if you can't find the number for Innomed.

I have a Revision-B (written on the literature that came with the mask) and just called Innomed. Bridgette said she knew nothing about a Revision-C. The only thing they changed was the headgear. I wonder where you got this info?Nodzy wrote:The Hybrid Mask: Be sure you get Revision-C of the mask and headgear combination.

My mask was ordered thru cpap.com, made by Teleflex Medical/Hudson RCI. I called customer service: the woman knew nothing about revision C, revision B, etc. Although, my literature (mask fitting guide) says 05080 Revision "something", I don't remember. Nevertheless, the woman at Teleflex was stumped. She said the mask shown on their website is THE mask. And what they show is what I received.
P.S. I don't think Innomed has anything do to with the Hybrid mask. Innomed is partnered with Teleflex/Hudson for another line of masks.

This is so interesting. Thanks for the info Nodzy. I've just recently gotten a data capable auto machine and card reader, software etc and found out why I've been feeling like crap. Since the spring I've been trying to make my relationship with the Hybrid work. I need a divorce lawyer.
Now that I have the data, I see that I'm having significant leaks and AHIs in the 20s each night. I've tried all the possible permutations of the mask with the same result. I even tape the pillows to my nose to try to stop the leaks.
I wonder if part of the problem is that I have the old A version of the mask.
As an interesting aside, I've tested using my old Swift mask which I quit using because of mouth leaks. Every night that I've used it, my AHIs were < 2. I don't tape my mouth at all and my results are great. Before I got the auto bipap, the mouth leaks woke me up and seemed to be affecting my therapy.
My perception was that the Swift leaks were huge and the Hybrid leaks were minor. That's how it felt. The data show otherwise.
I keep trying to make the Hybrid work because the Swift leaks towards my eyes every time I move. I think the Hybrid is better for side sleeping.
I've passed the 6 month mark with my hybrid and my dme sent me a new one. It is revision b. I don't know if I should try to get rev c and see if that improves things or stick to the Swift. I know for the next several nights I'm back to the Swift.
Data rules!
