Aussie heated hose question

Post by Bonnie » Tue Aug 21, 2007 8:33 am

My hose of two years was not heating the last few nights. I am thinking I might need to get a new one. Last time I purchased one I had to buy the adapter from Radio Shack and now I see that it comes with one for USA use. Should I spend the money on a new adapter if that could be my current reason for no heat or should I get a new one? Is two years a typical life span? Is the adapter from SleepZone a quality one? I remember reading a few posts about adapter problems but couldn't find them in a search. I'd give up my first born but I can't sleep without my heated hose Suggestions/solutions will be most appreciated. Thanks!

a Power supply from Radio Shack should work fine. It depends on where you live when you use it, but if it is too warm when you last used it you can drop down from a 12VDC power supply to a 9VDC power supply (either one will work). They should have about 800ma to 1AMP current rating.

Take your hose to radio shack and have them check the continuity of the hose, it should have about 13 Ohm resistance if the hose is good. If the Ohm meter reads Zero or doesn't move when checking across the center pin and the side ground, then the hose has an open circuit and getting a new power supply won't help.

If you check their website or the paper that came with your heated hose it tells you which power supply specifically that works with the hose. I use a 9VDC 800ma one off an old Linksys DSL router it works fine. I wouldn't order one from down under, it is a cheap China import, the ones at Radio Shack are better quality and would cost less considering shipping and exchange rate.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Thanks, Snoredog! I didn't know the hose could be checked. I will take it into Radio Shack as you suggested and you might just have saved me big bucks, come on over I'll buy you a beer or make you cookies!

Maybe you can have your adapter checked in radio shack? And then if it doesn't work, by a new one and check it on your hose? All they need to chekc the adapter is a contraption with a small (flashlight type) light bulb connected to it.

And instead of giving up your first born ( ) how about buying a backup hose ? That's only giving up about $100 - give or take some.

Mine's having its second birthday these day - (my hose, that is ) and it's doing fine.

Thanks, Ozij a spare sounds good...
But I think I'd rather give up my first born. He's a lawyer!

Seriously, I love him like a... hmmm, a son!

And a big happy birthday to your hose, are you having a party?!?!
