I am very new to all of this? Had sleep study only. Haven't gone back for the whatever that is they do to determine machine, mask, pressure etc... I would rather get an APAP machine and let it adjust accordingly. After reading comments in this forum and reading reviews on machines and masks I get the feeling that I am going to be many dollars in before I find the thing that really really works for me.

Some like C-Flex, some don't. What is A-Flex? It appears most humdifiers are not integrated but come as a separate machine. Don't like that.

I never wake up in the morning feeling refreshed anymore. Doctor says study revealed I also have "restless leg syndrome". He called it something else but doesn't know if that is an independent symptom are is the result of my sleep blockages.

The more I read and research the more confused I become by all of this. I guess I am going to make an appointment to consult and be fitted for a mask first and then go from there. I hope I get lucky and resolve my sleep problem quickly but somehow I have my doubts. I am just too tired and don't have the energy for all of this. Whine, whine, whine,,,,,

I'd rather spend my money on green fees

If you don't treat Apnea seriously, you will be closer to paying for your Greens Fees, by the plot, in the Cemetery.

If you have INS. do the tests, If not get a script and buy online, Get the software and reader, and start learning.

RLS, is a separate problem that also can effect sleep. Jim

Thanx for the concern Jim. Drowsyjim here, shows guest above. When I had the sleeptest done I came down with the worst cold I have had in years just one day after. I almost never get sick and certainaly haven' t had a cold that bad in I don't remember when. Two antibiotics and a nasal spray later I am back to "normal." I believe I got it from that "lab" they had me in. I don't won't to go back there to sleep again.

Question? Should I have gotten AHI and Pressure readings at my follow up or does that happen when you go back and sleep for the machine and mask test? Whatever that is called. I am not going back for that. I can go back and get fitted for a mask and they said they'd give me a prescription then.

You need to go back and look thru MANY forums here and look at all the questions asked.

Sometimes they do the study in one nite, Split study, some use two nights. You need to bug them for the results. If you had a split they should have a pressure for you. You need a Script with the pressure on it and a type of machine (APAP). If you pay out of pocket, buying online is cheaper, our host cpap.com, are good to deal with. Jim

A-Flex provides expiration pressure relief in both straight CPAP mode and in automode whereas C-Flex provides expiration relief in straight CPAP mode only.

Most CPAPs do have integrated heated humidifiers. They fit together securely almost as one machine.

Perhaps the doctor was talking about Periodic Leg Movements which are not the same thing as Restless Leg Syndrome.

You can't purchase a mask w/o a prescription.

C-Flex and A-Flex, are comfort settings, They work in BOTH the APAP and the CPAP mode. They provide exhale pressure relief, and can be turned off and also adjusted with 3 settings. We have a few here that think they don't like them, but for the most part they make XPAP easier to live with. It's all about options, if you take a stripped down machine, you have few options. Jim

Of COURSE you can get a mask without a script - no idea where that came from but if it were true (that you can't) I'd have put Cpap.com and some other co's out of business long ago . It's only the machine that you need a script for. BTW the second part of the study is called the 'titration' (tie-tration).

Masks are categorized by its manufacturer into the FDA's Prescription reuired" category

Check in the thread on "Resmed got med ...." . This therad discuss the ban by e-Bay on the sale of all CPAP masks. e-Bay was informed by a manufacturer that all CPAP masks are "prescrition" only

Read carefully the research done by ECHO on FDA's document that support this assertion.

Thank goodness the FDA, is just the USA version of what's right, it too bad they can't think for themselves and have to have the manufactures tell them what's safe. What's safe is the price rates of products that are over controlled, (By Price Controls) Jim

The most time consuming thing is finding the perfet mask..Are you a mouth breather? Do you breather through your nose? Have someone help you measure by using the help available on the cpap.com site for products.
That gives you an idea of the size and the name of the available masks for your size. Even if you don't buy through them here..... We all WASTE gobs of $ trying to find the right fit. Maybe you can come up with the perfect solution.

Needingu, that is my concern. Buying mask after mask to find what works best for me. I am taking it slow and continue to read that is why I appreciate the comments from all of you. It all helps.

I plan to make an appointment (waiting for a call back) to get fitted for a mask and to do some consultation. They said they would give me a prescritption at that time. I also am going to ask for a copy of my test results. I have already let them know that I do not plan to have a "titration" study done. I am just not inclined to go back into that lab again. I do have insurance but I can buy a mask of my choice for no more or less than the deductible that the insurance charges for a CPAP.

I did not have a split study so don't know if they have the cm pressure. However, my understanding is that with the auto adjust machine I don't really need that. According to the required info for a APAP machine scrip over at cpap.com I don't have to have that. Please keep the comments coming. I will start a new thread or threads as I progress in this process.

If you made it through the first "sleep study", the next part, the "titration" is a piece of cake. I had both of mine on the same night...."split study" and slept like a rock through the titration part. (the first part was a different story).

If you don't do the titration part, the doctor may be hesitant to write a script because it has to state the pressure......and without that, you may have problems getting a machine (through normal channels).
