strange cpap machine

Post by andyomega2 » Mon Aug 13, 2007 9:27 am

Hello, I have a Respironics RemStar Auto M series.
It has no slot for smart card, its humidifer is permantly connected. I tried to seperate it last night because I do not use it and took the cover off and removed the screws only to discover its one unit.
I have never seen this style machine anywhere on the net.

Also, the alarm goes off when I have an event. The alarm is turned off in its menu. Its not very loud but I hear it as I awaken... or it awakens me...

I am starting to get annoyed with this machine. Im thinking of giving it back to the health clinic and buying my own.

any ideas whats up with this machine? is it old? early model? why does my alarm go off?
thanks ...
P.S. My log in does not work for some reason.

I would definitely call the manufacturer, give them the serial number, model number, etc. Tell them your DME supplier has not been able to help you. Maybe it's a prototype or pre-production machine or something like that. Let us know what you find out. Did it come with a manual?

I have the RemStar Auto w/C-Flex "classic" (i.e. the pre-M series). The "classic" sits on a "plate" which is also the base of the humidifier. You do not need to attach the "plate" and humidifier to run this Auto.

The M Series Auto w/C-Flex's humidifier is also a separate unit but attached to the Auto itself, except along the side rather than to the front.

Both Autos can be run w/o the humidifier attached. I'm taking a guess you are looking in the WRONG place to detach your humidifer.

Take a look at pictures of the units w/and w/o the humidifer and at the humidifier pictures at cpap.com before you tinker w/it any further and risk your 2 year warranty.

I've never heard of a Respironics Auto that didn't have the capacity for a smart card. Perhaps you have the model name wrong? And its a really old model?

I'd take a guess that what you have is NOT an Auto but rather the Remstar Plus M (not an M series). The first CPAP I was given (which I promptly returned) was a RemStar Plus M. It is NOT an Auto and it does not have a smart card slot nor is it fully data capable.

The Remstar Classic is the type of machine I have. The humidifier doesn't have any kind of a cover.

If you have the manual, see what machine it says it is on the front and let us know.

This reminds me of the debate we had about the Swift conversion kit, when one poster described his Swift II mask and everyone said it couldn't be as he described, since their were different. Well, it turned out he bought it on Ebay and it was a pre-production model, a different design than the final Swift II.

Checking with Respironics is the way to find out. Did the place sell the machine to you/your insurance company? It will be interesting to find out.

The first time I ever tried to remove my M series machine's integrated heated humidifier from the machine, I didn't think it would come apart. It takes such a forceful pull (and at a certain angle) that I really thought I was going to break it.

The slot for the Smart Card is located on the same end that the hose outlet is on. Facing that end, hose outlet is on the right, power cord connects in the middle, and a vertical slot for a Smart Card is on the left -- almost at the left edge of that end of the machine.

If your M series Auto doesn't have a vertical slot there, Andy, that really is odd.

The humidifier is (should be) a separate unit. It just looks like an all in one.

Getting it separated takes a certain touch. Lift the CPAP up and pull forward in a sort of 1-2 motion, while holding the humidifier portion down solidly.

It should separate from the plate. There is a power connection and outlet connection.

Hope this helps.
