Pur-Sleep Trial Offer - Strugglers II
In going back through the old pursleep threads from last march I came across this little number from DreamStalker that gave me another good chuckle--

Re: I just haven't been seeing benefits to the Pur Sleep....
A few thoughts come to mind. One is that the ability to adjust to a smell is a prominent feature of olfaction. Bakers don't really smell the bread they're baking like a customer entering the bakery would. Also, the sense of smell basically turns off while people sleep. There was a sleep study that showed that odors do not typically wake people up--an odor alarm would not be effective. I can also say that after using this stuff for an extended period of time I find myself using a little more oil so I can smell it, but nothing like you're reporting. Also, some oils are, by their nature, more strong and persistent than others, but you report adjusting to the most persistent ones (basically, Clear and Spice are the strongest). It sounds to me like you have a particularly quick adjustment mechanism for whatever reason. Sorry about that!lummusc wrote:![]()
I had so hoped to be able to say that it has been wonderful for me like all the others have said. But, I don't seem to get anything from it. It smells nice for about 3 minutes and then I don't smell it any more. I put lots of drops in a lot of different formulas (clean with peace, spice with clean, etc. It all smells good. But I don't seem to notice the smell long enough for it to just relax me and make me happy and sleepy due to this pleasant smell. It doesn't help me get to sleep any sooner, or stay asleep any longer.
I am one of these people that really does believe in this stuff, that is why I am so sad that I am not seeing the results others are writing about. I have continued trying but not much happens.
Any suggestions?''
AM I a loner out here?

Windfall just posted this comment on another thread and I thought it belongs here as well since she was one of the trial participants, one who was having a particularly hard time with therapy -
windfall wrote:I received the Pur-Sleep trial kit from Bret last Thursday. Every night since has been a vast improvement over months of waking up repeatedly, battling with hoses and masks. I sleep, I dream, and if I wake up I quickly go back to sleep. YIPPPEEEEE!
After the first night (a wonderful success) I was so jazzed that I decided I should try Pur-Sleep for the entire week before commenting. After all, what if this was a fluke?
So, it's now been a week. I'm delighted to say this is no fluke. I've had such a great week sleeping that I've had a great week awake too! Because I'm able to sleep and dream I feel better than I have in months (heart attack in February 2007, diagnosed with OSA shortly there after). I'm now getting quality sleep! This means much less fear and frustration because CPAP therapy is a MUST for me - OSA (very low O2 levels) was a contributing factor.
My overall favorite is Spice, followed by Peace then Clear. I rotated the scents each day. Spice brings back very happy memories of times that I hadn't thought of in years. What works best for me is placing the Pur-Sleep diffuser slightly behind and to the side of the CPAP machine. The scents are pleasant and do not take over the entire room/house.
The other good news is this may be the end of my personal "mask madness". My leak rate is much improved because I'm not tossing and turning trying to get comfortable to go back to sleep. I've been using the Ultra Mirage and Quattro this week with great success - keeping a mask on, not ripping it off to throw across the room or just waking up without it on. I'm a mouth breather and have tried every full face mask my DME normally offers plus a couple special orders with specific prescriptions.
Bret, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Pur-Sleep has absolutely made a positive difference in my life!!! I remain very grateful for your efforts.

First of all...
THANKS Sleepguy for letting me participate in this trial!!!!!!!
I got my packet just a few days after requesting it and was THRILLED!
I didn't use the pursleep (or cpap for that matter) that night or the next because I had a severe sinus infection and couldn't breathe AT ALL through my nose. After some antibiotics, etc my head opened some and I used the clear. I really like the clear. It worked a LOT better than the jar of vicks I've had next to my machine for months!!!
I've also tried 1 drop of clear and 1 drop of peace and think that is probably my favorite combo.
It definately "Masks" the plastic smell that I seem to be always aware of.
I have slept some better and would love to report results that are dramatically improved like some others, but I am still taking off my mask several times a night. I might have managed a total of 3 hours last night, and that was probably my best for the last 3-4 weeks.
Of course the fact that this is by far the busiest and most stressful time of year at my job and I have 2 kids (6 & 3) starting school wouldn't have ANYTHING to do with it!
All in all I think the pursleep is helping some, and when the stress is alleviated somewhat, I think I will notice more of a difference. And as I said it definately helps more than what I was doing before. The only reason I didn't order this as soon as it became available is I was concerned the smells would irritate my DH's allergies, but that hasn't been a problem at all. Last night was the only time he even noticed the smell, and it didn't seem to bother him at all. (He actually suggested that I recommend it to several other people that we know who have sleep apnea. Which I will!)
Again, Thanks Brett!

I took a business trip last week and, as usual, stayed in a hotel room where I can smoke. Needless to say, the room smelled smokey.
I'm pleased to report that using the PurSleep EOs, I didn't notice the smokey smell any of the nights there after I put on my mask. Even more impressive is that when I returned home, where I don't smoke inside at all, and using the PurSleep EOs, there was no smokey-nasty-smelling residue odor the first night back! Usually, it takes repeated cleanings of my mask, hose and tank and then a couple or 3 nights of use before the smell is gone.
Another kudo to ya, Sleepguy!!
Thanks.

This therapy WORKS!!!
I to would like to say a big thanks to Bret (Sleep Guy) for allowing me to participate in this trial. The kit came really promptly and I was really looking forward to trying the different sents.
I can't really say it made me sleep any better but I sure enjoyed the smell and I have to admit it seems to be relaxing (maybe I do go to sleep a bit sooner). Unlike some that have posted I have to be very careful not to use to much. One drop is generally enough, I tried two drops the first night and it was a bit strong. But the flip side to that is I can still smell it after 6 or 7 hours in the morning. Some mornings I wake and think the smell is not there but if I take off the mask and go to the potty and come back, when I put the mask back on "Oh yea" it's still there. The clear and peace are my favorites. I am sure I will continue to use it and am looking forward to trying several of the other oils. I looked at the web site and several of them sound very intreging.

Time to add my review...
First, a big Thanks! to Bret for letting me try this wonderful product, as well as for keeping in touch through various shipping issues (the post office is the culprit here).
You'd think since we both live in the same state, pretty much the same city, even, the USPS wouldn't have a problem getting the package to me quickly. Then again, never underestimate government (in)efficiency.
Anyway, despite everything it had probably been through, the package arrived intact. Nothing was broken or leaking, it was all in excellent condition.
The 3 oils, 3 pads, diffuser and some instuctions were in a small plastic bag with gold stars on it, which looked nice against the dark blue color of the EO bottles & everything else. I'd probably notice the packaging if I just saw it in a store, and would pick it up to get a better look. Maybe it's just all the years of art classes back in school, but I really liked the color scheme. I thought that the way the set was packaged was quite attractive.
I opened up the bag and looked over each of the components (now we're getting into the scientist/quality control analyst side of my personality ). All of the bottles were sealed like they should be. Since getting them, I accidentally knocked one off the nightstand and it didn't break. The bottles, diffuser and pads all seem to be of good quality, like they should last for awhile. The directions were clear and easy to understand.
Out of the three scents, I immediately liked Clear the best. Peace also smelled really good. Spice is okay, but I'm not sure if I'd want to smell it while I'm trying to go to sleep. It doesn't seem as "restful" to me as Clear and Peace do, but that's JMO.
I can't remember if I started using the oils before or after I switched to my autoPAP machine, but it probably doesn't matter. Either way, it does seem easier to fall asleep with the oils than without.
My first few nights on CPAP, it took forever to fall asleep...everything was uncomfortable and reeked of plastic. Even after washing the mask, hose, etc a few times, I'd still occasionally catch a whiff of the plastic smell and it really grossed me out.
With the Pur-Sleep, I can't smell the plastic anymore, and that alone makes it worth it to me. And unless I'm having other issues that are keeping me awake, I really do seem to fall asleep faster with the EOs.
I haven't been keeping track of how many drops I use, because by the time I drag myself off to bed, I'm usually nearly unconscious anyway and have no clue what I'm doing. I did notice that sometimes a little more oil than I wanted spills out as I'm lifting the bottle up and pulling it away from the pad. This is probably fine though, because I sleep with a fan on high, which seems to make the oild dry up a little more quickly than it otherwise would.
Up until last night, I'd only used Clear, which I love.
Last night I tried Peace, which is interesting. I noticed that I like the scent of it better once the "top note" (do I use the same terminology for EOs as perfumes?) fades away. I can't quite place what this scent is, but there's something really familiar about it, like the same scent is used in a perfume or cologne that I like (it probably is).
Anyway, whatever this "middle note" is lasted a really long time, despite the fact that I had a fan on. I woke up several times with mask issues, and I could still smell it, if only faintly. Clear never lasts that long for me.
Maybe tonight I'll have to mix Clear and Peace to see what that's like. It's interesting that I like the smell of Clear right out of the bottle, but then it fades more quickly than Peace, which smells better to me once the "top note" scent has faded.
This probably doesn't make much sense.
Anyway, I am definitely going to keep using Pur-Sleep, and I look forward to trying some of the other oils. Thanks again for the trial!

I'm not only 100% compliant with my CPAP, but since receiving Pur-Sleep, I've been 100% compliant with my aromatherapy treatment.
I know that it may not work for everyone, but applying the scents to my pad, starting my machine, allowing it to blow for awhile, then putting on the mask filled with a pleasurable fragrance, seems to have created a nighttime ritual that helps me focus myself on the task of sleeping.
Although I generally like lavender, I found that I didn't like Peace very well.
Spice is my favorite, though not my wife's, when I'm using it, she says the clove scent reminds her of a dentist's office. So, for her sake, I use it sparingly.
Clear is my second favorite, my wife likes that better, so I use it more often.
Then, I discovered a new scent. As I was reading through the posts, I saw that someone mixed their Clear and Peace scents.
I've tried that for the past couple of nights, and found that Peace seems to "soften" the edge of the Clear, and the Clear masks whatever I don't like in the Peace scent, and allows me to enjoy the fragrant part of the oil that I do like.
Together, the two scents seem to be more relaxing for me than any of the 3 scents by themselves.
Generally, I try to rotate the scents for variety, or apply them depending on my mood. For me, Spice conveys a sense of happiness, and makes me think of my Grandmother, who was always ready with Neco Candies and Slices of Orange when I was growing up.
This stimulation of good memories, not only seems to bring a happy and relaxing state of sleep, but causes me to be grateful when I wake up for the good things that have come my way in life.
Clear seems to calm my brain after a busy day, and stimulates a sense of calm that allows me to enter into a deep REM sleep, with increased awareness of my dreams. It allows my imagination to run wild, and helps me to reduce the stresses of the day as I sleep. I wake up refreshed, and ready to tackle the next day with renewed vigor.
Together, Clear and Peace, bring a calming effect, that allows sleep to be a pleasure, in a way that I've never experienced.
While some may question the "medicinal value" of aromatherapy, and while all of us will respond differently to the different scents, we can't overestimate the value that this tool brings to the overall wellness of some of us.
On a practical note, my sense of smell is very strong, so I find that 1 or 2 drops works the best for me. However, should I drop more than intended, I simply move the diffuser farther back, and a little to the right of the air intake, and I can adjust the scent according to my comfort level.
If the scent seems a little strong, on a particular night, because my sense of smell may be hypersensitive, then I simply flip the pad over, and it tones down the smell, without masking it completely.
Bret, thanks for allowing me to participate in this trial. You can be sure that I'll be ordering some new scents, and extra diffuser pads to go with them, and recommending Pur-Sleep to those who may be struggling with their therapy. It's another tool in the wellness arsenal, and worth trying if it will help improve the quality of our sleep.

Just to let everyone know that I have found paradise and it comes in a little blue bottle from purr sleep. I was one of the lucky ones to be in on the second trail and luv all of them, then order 2 more from the company and fell in love with paradise. My husband has stated that I'm sleeping very deeply now, and he is now telling people that he works with about purr sleep and to try it for themselves. As for my self I'll just keep buying and using. Thank You Thank You Thank you for thinking of this.

Yes, there's something very special about real, authentic first distillation ylang ylang. It's very expensive so I almost didn't add this one to the lineup but I'm glad I did. Glad you like it!coldair wrote:Sleepguy

I second that. I tried the "Paradise" EO from Pur Sleep last night, and it's awesome.Just to let everyone know that I have found paradise and it comes in a little blue bottle from purr sleep
I tried about 3 drops (I sleep with a heavy-duty fan on in my room, which makes the oils dry out quicker if I use less), and the smell was so peaceful and relaxing. It reminded me of being on vacation in Hawaii. I think I fell asleep alot faster than usual (the Advil PM might've helped too... ) and I didn't wake up at all during the night.
This morning, I could still smell it (just a tiny bit) in my mask and lingering in my room.
Great stuff!

After using Pur Sleep for what, a month or more, I've noticed that my diffuser pad has retained several of the EO odors from repeated use. In fact, it's to the point that I only have to add another drop or 2 every couple or 3 nights now. WOWZERS!
