Cosmo Magazine, wrinkles, sleeping, and head gear

Post by canyongirl » Wed Aug 01, 2007 10:36 am

So Im reading my Cosmo (one of my girlie guilty pleasures) and there is this article about skin care.

It says that a good dermatologist can tell which side of your face you sleep on due to wrinkles, etc.

I was wondering if a good dermatologist could also tell you which mask you wear.

If thi is the case, I'm due to be a a very wrinkly old lady... lol

Hmm. Well, I'm sure the good dermatologist is right about half the time.

Hmmmm... as I've always said... "Wrinkles are no big deal. They are just slip-resistant lip grips."

Yeah....but I want to look good for as long as possible. I am carefull about my skin. I avoid the sun and always wear sunscreen, I dont smoke, I am very carefull about what I put on my face. I dont want wrinkles before my time. I was curious about teh affect of hthe mask and headgear on the natural aging process myself. I am sure I will look better as I am finally getting sleep....but I do wonder.

Jenn...
Judging just from the tiny picture... I'd say you succeed at looking like a dish of warm wishes. But it surely won't hurt to defend against the eventual onset.

Worry also creates the chemistry that damages skin, among other body organs.

Yea ... I think I would use the mask rather than worry about my skin. Besides, I'm pretty sure my skin wouldn't look nearly as good after I've been dead for a few weeks (IMO).

OK, I was just thinking about this. I mouth-tape. I just got some new 2 inch tape and used it. The next morning some of my wrinkles looked much deeper. It made me wonder if this would accentuate the wrinkles when used nightly.

If so, I see a new market for chin straps, masks and mouth tape that smoothes out wrinkles. Maybe called "smooth-a-cheek." . Not only will we look younger due to getting good quality sleep, we won't need botox.

Cpap accessories could become all the rage!

lol rosemary.

I would never stop using CPAP over something like wrinkles. I would just be curious to know if it does in fact help make wrinkling worse.

Thanks for the compliment nodzy.

I don't think that's vain at all. I'm also 26, and IMO, it's never too early to start taking good care of your skin.

head gear and wrinkles

Post by coach16 » Wed Aug 01, 2007 4:58 pm

JennMary, I read and replied (under a different name) to your post on the other site. You are not vain at all, you have a very valid question and one that I am glad you have addressed.

I definitely believe that the mask does speed up the wrinkling process, I have seen it do so on my face and I know that is what it is from because it is in the areas where the straps press against my face. It's ok though, wrinkles add character you know! Right. Actually whoever coined that phrase could not have been over thirty

It is also true that sleeping on one's side creates wrinkles. I have read that some Hollywood stars have trained themselves to sleep on their backs for that very reason. While I don't know how true that is, the wrinkle part makes sense. Repetitive facial movements are what form wrinkles, be it laughing, crying, wearing a cpap mask, or smooshing your face into your pillow If you are fortunate to live long enough, life lines show on your face.

Take care.

I have worried about this too.
I don't have wrinkles yet but do have some loss of tone in my lower face (at 62). I think the PadACheeks help with the wrinkling issue. But the weight/pressure of the hybrid cushion pressed up on lower face isn't exactly helping increase the tone in my face. It's dragging it down even more. But I figure my health is more important than the way I look at this point.
What can you do.

JennMary,
If you are using sunscreen consistently already at age 26, you are way, way, way ahead in the wrinkle prevention game!

(That said, I'm thinking about adding some extra padding under my mask straps. )

I have what seem to be permanent dents in my forehead where the forehead bumper thingies on my Flexifit HC406 sit -and I wear it pretty loose. Luckily, my bangs hide 'em.
