Nasal Mask Successes??
Re: Nasal mask
[quote="GreenIce"]After using 3 mask, optilife, profile lite and comfort lite 2, this masks did not work well for me, leaking all the way. Optilife comes off quite easily, perhaps my head shape. Profile lite leaves marks on my nose bridge and leaking badly during higher pressure. The best result was comfort lite 2 (direct seal) but still it is leaking according to encore report, leaks >= 50, AHi 4.9.
I am going back to Activa, just make a purchase. During my cpap trial with activa (large size) was doing great, no leaks except I can't wear for too long. After 2 weeks of using, my upper lips are painful. I am not aware of any sizing template for Activa.
I wonder what I am going to do with all this masks.

Re: Nasal mask
Atruvirgo, I do not know myself perhaps over tightening, I am going to experiment with brand new activa soon. At least it works for me before.Looks like some mask are suited for some people.atruvirgo wrote:
Someone else mentioned that their lips hurt from the Activa also. I wonder why that is??
Good luck with mask hunting, Atruvirgo !
I have been using my mirage activa (replaced cushions every 3 months) since October, 2005. I have tried numerous masks and keep coming back to this one.
Why? For me - it is the mask with my lowest leak rate and AHI average, and it is the most comfortable and is free of modifications to fit exactly how I would like it to. I can sleep on my side or my back with out having to adjust this mask. I have never had my upper lip hurt with this mask nor my the bottom of my nose.
I do, however, have an indention on the bridge of my nose when I wake up. It does not hurt and goes away in less than 1/2 of an hour. I most likely have the top strap too tight, but this is how I completely eliminated leaks going to my eyes. I do use a padacheek fore head pads and strap pads. Wonderful product and and thanks to Karen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally stopped using a chin strap which, IMHO, is helping my activa fit even better. I am using 1/2 of a poli grip strip every night (don't know who I need to thank for this - but THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I am actually using the same headgear which came with my original mask and rarely have to adjust it. I change cushions every 3 months and that's about it. Yes, I'm trading/buying other masks for find - what - the "holy grail" of masks, but maybe I have it right in front of my nose!!!!!
Hope this helps.

Have you tried the Soyola? The Somnotech nasal mask?
Very, very comfortable and very, very quiet. And light. It's does not feel heavy on the face at all. I like my co2 exchange to be higher (like hybrid) , but I have serious pressure needs. Great mask. I liked it much more than Aptiva.

Maybe you can trade them up for some others that might work. There's a thread for just that!
I used the Activa at my sleep study and liked it generally. Did seem a bit large though. I'm also one of those "small nose, small face" folks. Had a bit of crusty eye the next morning. Mask wasn't leaking but it was touching very near the corners of my eyes, which I think caused that. I had a red sore place on my forehead as well but found out later that the sleep tech had the mask on waaay too tightly for that specific kind. I'm sure that wouldn't happen again if it were fitted correctly.
The HHC should come to my house and bring my machine today and let me try on more masks. I liked the openness of a nasal pilows, but I'm not sure that they will seal well enough for me to keep out the leaks. I'm also an active sleeper, moving around a lot sometimes even in my deepest sleep. I need a mask that will stay with me!

I found out later from a friend ( he and his partner run a sleep clinic) that Activa wasn't so good for super high pressures. What's your take? It's didn't sit well on me.

Oh, and forgot to mention that my ins. will pay for a new mask every three months, so my collection will undoubtedly get sizeable as well. My pressure in titration study was 13. I can see where the Activa might not do well in high pressures because of the way it's designed. I experienced no problems at 13, but it was so tightly sinched to my head that it probably wouldn't have leaked if there had been a hurricane in there!

Does mask (in general) last only 3 months ?drummergirl410 wrote:Oh, and forgot to mention that my ins. will pay for a new mask every three months
I wonder, I am paying 100% on my own for APAP and masks. No insurance coverage for medical equipment where I reside (outside US). I hope to "stretch" the use of mask for a longer period if possible.
Optilife is my new #1 favorite... Comfortable, doesn't leak, allows for lots of moving around, and is very light and unobtrusive. Best part is even if I feel slightly congested, the nasal pillows open things right up.
Activa was my first mask and I still find it very comfortable and effective.
Haven't found a full face mask that I like yet.

Hey Atruvirgo, how come you're selling/swapping your Opus? What didn't you like about it? I see you didn't even sleep in it.
Re-direct me if there's another thread on this topic.
DieselGal, that upper lip thing is why I didn't like the Breeze. It tended to SIT on my upper lip at night, making it uncomfortable. I could SLEEP, and the irritation went away quickly in the morning, but it wasn't optimum for me.
Jen asked me about the Snapp. Does anyone have anything to say about the Snapp?
Cheers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.
