Nasal Aire II came in!!
Nasal Aire II came in!!
I got the first of the 2 Nasal Aire II masks I ordered from ebay today! Hubby helped me put it together because I couldn't figure out how the two tubes connect on to the nasal prong. I gave it a tester with laying on my side and moving around. It seemed to stick to the pillow a little.
I'm so excited!!!

The second one was $25 plus $10 shipping, and I couldn't resist?? Especially if I end up liking it, then I have an extra. I'm just that way. If I find something I like or know I might like, I buy more than one. I guess that's my impulsive side.

So happy your e-bay purchase worked out well - with all we've heard lately. I'd love to know how you like your NAII!

I am in love with my Nasal AIre II and you may have seen me talk about it before I tried on about 10 masks before getting to it and I LOVE it. I use a bit of ky jelly so it doesnt irritate and Im good to go. SOmetimes after washing I have to rotate it a bit to get the right angle. ALso it takes a few days of wearing for it to conform to your nostrils but once it does its very comfy I cant even feel it. Not sure about the stickin maybe jsut needs washing or dust it with some powder? Everyone once in awhile I flip the nose piece and reform the shape. ALso look at their website theres like 7 ways to wear it - its awesome! If you have any leaks you ll need to up it a size as it should take a little work to get it in w.o KY anyhow for a good fit. Its leak rates rock ~ the thing is fabulous!
I used the nasal star, and it indicated that I needed a small prong. I tried it on, got the dang thing in my nose, and checked for leaks before I hooked it up to the machine. No leaks.
In the middle of the night, I kept hearing a leaking sound from my left nostril. It happened with the higher pressure. I'm going to try the medium size tonight. Other than that, there wasn't any discomfort with the prongs. I didn't use anything in my nose.
I used the head gear and didn't care for the hoses to go across the bottom of my eyes and over my ears. After waking up 3 times to try to shove the prong back in tightly, I got my Optilife and put it back on because I still had a few hours befoe I had to get up.
Carrie, where's that website? I need to find a different way to wear this thing. Thanks!
Doesn't someone here wear it without headgear at all? How do you do that?

Don't you find it a bit on the noisy side?
....there are silent interfaces out there, put it on with the machine off you get the idea
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
Here are all the websites and tips on how to wear the NAII. See third link for best photos of different headgear options.
When I develop leaks in the night, I find the best solution is to push the prongs all the way up. I seem to get leaks right smack in the middle of the cannula. If I push it all the way up, they stop.
Cheers,
B.

SIZING: I have found the best size for me is one that is difficult to insert. I have to fold and shove to get them in, every night. Some nights it takes me more time than others. According to the Teleflex Rep I spoke to at a vendor fair, the idea is to push them in as far as they will go, then gently pull them back until the little bulge at the end “stops”. That’s the optimum position for the least amount of leakage. YMMV. I end up pushing them up and back several times a night. I still fiddle with this mask, but I’m sleeping a good 7+ hours, with 2.1 AHI, so I’m very happy with it. For reference, I wear Medium Plus on the NAII, Large on the Breeze, and Small on the CL2.
I have abandoned the headgear, and attached the NAII to my chinstrap. I wear a Tiara Brand “Topaz” style chinstrap. I use little strips of Velcro “one wrap” (the stuff that has hooks one side, and loops on the other side, so it hooks to itself) to bind the side tubes to the side pieces of my chinstrap. I have two loops on each side. I found two works better for me. I leave them slightly loose, so I can slide the tubes up and down as needed. I then have the bolo loops from the headgear placed on the tubes so they come together at the crown of my head. I route the tubes up over my head, they meet the main machine tube behind my pillow, and the tube then runs along the top of my mattress where it meets the headboard and on up to my machine. You can see pix of what I did here:

I have found if there is liquid present, I get leaks. Initially, I had trouble when I inserted the prongs while my nose was wet with Ayr Gel. I then started putting on the Ayr Gel, letting it dry, then inserted the prongs. Now I skip the Ayr Gel entirely. I use it when I feel any irritation, but usually only in the mornings, not at night. So far, haven’t had any irritation from using prongs without Ayr Gel. I also sleep with my HH at 0. Rainout causes leaks for me, too.
Mouth Taping: This worked for me. I was successful with it, but I don’t like taping.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

I wear ear plugs to drown out hubby's snoring, and the dog barks next door. So the sound of a mask isn't going to bug me one bit. It might bug hubby, but I tell him it's better than the snoring I used to do, right?
