My insurance didn't give any option except rental for 10 months (Aetna). Since the 10 months is not yet up, I'm trying to get my sleep lab to write a script for an APAP machine. If they won't do that, I know that my PMD will write it for me. One way or the other I will end up with the machine I want.
I used an APAP for 6 weeks while the sleep lab tried to hone in on a pressure for me. I liked it, and liked the fact that you could read out various parameters, such as AHI and leak rate. Without that, I feel like I'm flying blind. I have no idea what different masks are doing, and whether I'm improving or hurting my overall AHI.
There seems to be quite a lot of positive comment on the Respironics APAP M-Series with Aflex. I know I've seen posts by Snoredog among others who rate it highly. That will be one of the ones I'm looking at.
Perhaps others will chime in to give their opinions on other APAP machines, and CPAP machines such as the Respironics M Series Pro. It does not auto titrate, but will give you results.
Look at the different models and features on https://www.cpap.com

Well, honestly, my tech told me, and then quickly followed that with the fact that she was not supposed to tell me what my pressure SHOULD be or WOULD be, that was for the doctor to do. I managed to get a LOT of information out of her. All the same information was repeated by my doctor and in my report.flylow wrote:
I am interested in knowing how you knew the pressure was 20 when you had the issue. Did the tech tell you or did you find that out from the report? I am still waiting for my titration report.

Your best ammunition is information, and the best place to get that is right here on this forum. Wish I had done more homework in the beginning, but I was fooled by the Plus machine having a "smart card". Live and learn.
So, right up front ask, and even demand a machine that will give you real data. Once you walk out the door with a machine it gets harder to deal. You have lost a lot of leverage.
Good luck.
