Gross, but gotta ask

Post by canyongirl » Mon Jul 23, 2007 8:25 am

So.. I have been great on my cpap now since April. It has changed my life. It's awesome.

I read this forum almost everyday. It's been super helpful. I do struggle occasionally, but when I read the forum I know Im not alone in this and that there are always solutions.

I finally got that leak in the elbow of my quattro everyone is taking about. Teflon tape has been a great solution.. but to the gross stuff.............

I have a face mask, mirage quattro, which I LOVE (even with the teflon tape). I have noticed only in the last week or so.. drooling... A LOT.

My mouth doesn't feel dry, so I don't think Im breathing through my mouth. I am a side sleeper. But this drooling this just started. Maybe Im just that deeply asleep?

Any ideas? or anyone else get this? if so.. what did you do. its way gross!!!!!

I don't drool at all, so I didn't answer your poll, it wasn't an option

Two answers:

1. Depends on who is walking by.

2. If you are talking about drooling during the night while using cpap, then I wish I did. I have bad dry mouth at night. Surely drooling is much healthier and less uncomfortable than dry mouth.

I was a drooler, though not every night. Until I got the box. Now I'm trying to become a back sleeper and have not noticed much drool, if any.

I drool a ton when I sleep on my stomach.

I do drool, but not as much and not as frequently when I am on my side.

get yourself a Jack Russell terror and you won't need to drool....

I have my to bed routine, I go to the bathroom before bed, my Jack Russell waits for me on the bed where I normally sleep, what a faithful ole pal he has turned out to be

don't know how many times I've gotten into bed laid my head down and found the pillow all wet! So I've checked to see what he's doing, he licks the pillow while I'm in the bathroom!

That is worst than licking all the salt off potato chips and putting them back in the bag!

I haven't decided yet if I should put some hot pepper juice from a jar a Jalapenos on the pillowcase and break him of that nasty habit.

It might be that, with the Quattro, the bottom of the mask pushes your jaw back a little bit more than you are used to. This might be enough to affect the way you swallow when you sleep, causing the drooling. Just an idea, though

Ah Snoredog, he's licking the SNOREDOG TASTE off the pillow!

Maybe you should just put your pillow AWAY somewhere, or stuff it under the covers, until you're ready to sleep on it?

Might be better than getting a faceful of hot sauce...

I drool, but not alot. I have found it's kinda random. Some nights I drool, some nights I don't. I had a little drool this AM, but manageable. Not "wring the chin strap out" bad by any means.

Cheers,
B.

I don't drool at all, either, so I didn't vote.

Snoredog, we also have a JRT. He's a downright "spunky" little feller, about 1 1/2 years old. We've got some bitter apple spray we bought at the pet shop. That stops him from licking and it doesn't smell bad.

there wasn't a 'no' option, so i didn't vote either

i will say, though, that back when i was a dedicated mouthbreather, i definitely did drool...since my septoplasty and cpap i no longer mouth breathe and i no longer drool...just one more bonus!

Had considerable problem before I began using Denture strips to keep lips together to avoid air leaks. IMHO the air also pushes more drool out of lower corner of the mouth. I have almost zero problem in this regard since the Polident strips.

If I remember correctly, those University of Pennsylvania doctors on the videos said you don't produce saliva when you are asleep. So if you are drooling, maybe you aren't asleep?
