help wrist oximeter/encore1.8

Post by OREO » Fri Jul 20, 2007 12:18 pm

Hi, Seems I saw a post where a few people talked about wrist oximeters but can't remember the post "subject" and couldn't find it again.
A few of questions.
1. Anyone have a good one they would recommend that is
reasonably priced??
2. Can can you download onto Encore 1.8 so you can print the data
or does it depend on the oximeter as to what program (they seem
vague on line)?
3. It sounds like the oximeter does a nights recording. Is that true and how
does it read out, do you have to have software or can you see
high/low readings on the actual wrist piece.
-or-
Should we be considering something completely different. Also any comments on oxygen concentrators. We just purchased
our Auto APAP today and are ready to move on to the oxygen now but funds are low so our Dr. had suggested the want ads/Craigs list. Would appreciate any comments. Thanks, J

The SPO 7500 recording wrist oximeter comes w/its own software. The data can be exported to Excel. It allows a choice of time intervals of 1, 2, 5 and 10 seconds.

Nonin has just come out w/a wrist recording oximeter, I think it is the 3100. But the software has to be purchased separately. ProFox makes a software specifically for the Nonin wrist ox if I remember correctly.

You can shop for them via google and e-Bay to find the best prices.

My computer says I need to upgrade my brain to be compatible with its new software.

It looks like exactly what all of us need. The price however is a big concern. Can we find something similar cheaper?

Not if you want it to be a recording oximeter. You can find used hospital recording oximeters for around $250-$350. Nellcor seems to be a popular brand. BUT you have to make sure the sensor probe is included as they aren't cheap. And you aren't going to have much luck finding the software.

The used nelcores are ebay and do a google search for
Nelcor
Nonin
other famous med names. also EMT supplies and such.

the most useful third party software is Profox but they
have manufactures specfic and general packages
the cables are expensive.

Look at Aeromedixrx.com
Turnermedical.com

Everything is a little pricey but sometimes you get what you payfor.

I purchased a Nonin from Turner and I am happy with it.

Thanks for all your reply's and information. This will give us a direction to explore. More new territory but it helps to have wisdom from those that have
gone before you.

He has to sleep on his side the last two weeks and is now compliant with the AHI's, leaks, etc. but maybe being complaint on CPAP doesn't necessarily mean his oxygen levels are good?? He's not feeling any better at all (but atleast there doesn't seem so much danger from the apneas.

The sleep Dr. did not recommend oxygen in his report if I'm reading it right. But in re-looking at his sleep lab report it was done with 2 LPM oxygen on during the the whole sleep study at an average pressure of 9 and averaged in the low 90's saturation with the mask and oxygen combined. (Maybe a light is going on.)

Logically it would seem that a low 90's saturation would have been OK if no oxygen were attached during the study. But, because the test was done with oxygen, we can't assume that his saturation isn't lower than the low 90's now without oxygen. Does that make sense??
Thanks, J

It makes perfect sense and it would appear a serious mistake is being made if supplemental 02 has not been scripted. If he dropped to 90% or below w/02 supplementation you can be rest assurred he is dropping below 90% w/o supplemental 02. You need to get this straightened out and clarified quickly. This would certainly explain why he's not feeling any more rested. Good luck.

Last week, I talked with they people at Turnermedical.com concerning a SPO 7500 with ProFox software. They are in the process of putting together a package deal with those two components.

In looking at the SPO software printouts and comparing them with ProFox software printouts, I think the ProFox will be much more useful to me. I think the ProFox charts are more readable.....and I think I can get more usable (for me) information from them.

I'm waiting until the SPO 7500 / ProFox combo comes out before I make my move.

For a long time, I've suspected that I have periods of 02 desaturation during the night.......but my miserably crappy so-called "sleep studies" were inconclusive.

Once I obtain a recording Oximeter, I'll know for sure.....and then I'll take steps to correct this difficulty.
